How to Get an Internship as a College Grad?

Oct 02, 2009 @ 7:45pm

fashionclosetinternship.jpegI have graduated from college and the fashion job market is pretty stark. I do not mind paying my dues through an internship, but all of the ones that I have found require that you receive some kind of credit from an accredited institution.

Does anyone know how to go about getting credit as a grad? I live in NYC and the possible routes I've tried at the community colleges cost up to $1000, which I can't really afford to be paying to work. Any advice or direction would really help. I'd just like some kind of experience.

Thanks so much!!

I would check freefashioninternships.com DAILY, and be constantly sending resume's. Persistence is key. You might not hear back from everyone, but chances are you'll score at least an interview with someone. Good luck!

lots of schools will write letters of credit for alumni acknowledging that they know the internship is going on, and that's usually good enough.

Don't you have to pay extra during undergrad as well? At my university you have to pay like, 2,000 to get credit for internships. I would try sending out resumes to companies you are very interested in working for, and in you cover letter explain that although you are a college graduate you are very interested in interning for them. I've heard of people getting internships that way after they get out of school, also, it might lead to a future job with them if you manage to impress them during your internship.

Hi! Showroom Seven/Seventh House PR (who handles Charlotte Ronson) doesn't require college credit. I interned in their LA showroom and I was one of the few who was still going to school. Good luck!

DailyFashionJobs.com and Freefashioninternships.com are great sites! I found my current internship through there. I also learned that when you email if you highlight or bold the word FREE or WORK FOR FREE it grabs the person's attention. You could also check craigslist
