Earlier this month we learned that one of our favorite prime time soaps about rich people (yes, we have multiple favorites), Revenge, would be getting a clothing line. Details were sparse, and obviously we wanted to know more, so we rang costume designer Jill Ohannesson. Though a retail partner has yet to be confirmed, Ohannesson filled us in on what we can look forward to.
We caught up with The Bling Ring costume designer Stacey Battat to chat about everything from the stolen designer gear (lots of Louis Vuitton and Dior) to recreating the celebrity targets’ homes to luxurious perfection. Read on.
While Game of Thrones (which I don’t watch. Sorry!) may be the more popular TV obsession in this office/the world, a few of us have also gotten sucked into The Americans on FX–and not just because of the drama-filled plot twists between the CIA and Russian spies. The (early ’80s) clothes, hair, and Keri Russell’s overall flawlessness, are also pretty awesome to watch.

The costumes designed by Miuccia Prada for The Great Gatsby have been the subject of much buzz in the months leading up to the movie’s (very) long-awaited release–and now, you can check them out at Prada’s SoHo store.

Even if you’re not a musical person, I’d wager to say you’ll like Motown the Musical, which opened on Broadway this week. The show, written by Motown creator Berry Gordy, goes at breakneck speed through five decades of Motown history (including Gordy’s childhood) and through 50 of Motown’s greatest hits. You’re bound to hear one or 20 songs you know by heart, and at the show I attended, singing along was encouraged.
With a score that encompasses hits from The Supremes, The Jackson Five, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye (the list goes on and on), you’d think it would be hard to focus on much else–the story, the costumes, the set. The New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood justly faults the show for prioritizing the music over storytelling (though when the music is this good, you can see why the producers would want to cram it all in there). But Motown was a style as well as a sound. And the task of creating the costumes for the show, which sparkled extra bright thanks to a sponsorship from Swarovski, fell to Tony Award nominated costume designer–and Project Runway Season 7 runner-up–Esosa.
