You’ve heard of wearing jewelry to complement your face, but how about makeup to complement your jewelry? This season backstage, makeup and nail artists were inspired by the shimmer and shine of jewels and precious metals to very creative effect.
The first thing you noticed upon walking into 3.1 Phillip Lim’s spring 2014 show was the floor. It was covered in chunky salt crystals, with shiny mylar peeking through occasionally. A perma-cloud of white dust hung over the space, as the audience made their way (carefully, I might add–that stuff was hard to walk on!) to their seats, kicking up the salt crystals. I want to craft a style that will allow me to look like a lady who is handling my breakup with grace and dignity. On the inside I may be a basket case, but on the outside I want to exude a beautiful calm.
I am not good at exuding a beautiful calm even during the best of times, so I asked my friend, the stylist and fashion guru and host of the show What Not to Wear, Stacy London, how to dress for success in the days after getting dumped.
