Acne Spring 2013

The Clothes: Acne designer Johnny Johansson always knows how to dress the cool girls. For spring, he’s outfitting them with a country twang. In his line sheets, Johansson emphasized how important music is to his design process, and for this collection, he found inspiration in an Emmylou Harris track called “Wrecking Ball” that goes “Meet Read more →

The Best Shoes of the Fall 2012 Season

We’ve scoured the Fall 2012 collections for the most amazing shoes, and it was easy, because there were plenty. The best part? Footwear options for Fall 2012 are a lot more reasonable than their Spring 2012 counterparts. (Remember those 6 inch Versace lucite wedges?)

Fall 2012 saw lots of wide heels and mary-janes on the runway, and sometimes both simultaneously–like at Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Marni. Knee-high black boots ruled at Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Givenchy, and Rick Owens, and ladylike pumps could be found at Lanvin, Nina Ricci, and Jil Sander. Of course, if you’re looking for something crazy, look no further than Alexander McQueen’s heel-less fur shoes. Impractical, but so lovely.

Take a look at all the amazing shoes from Fall 2012 and just try to pick a favorite. It’s near impossible.

Fashion News Roundup: Kate Moss’s Arm is Paralyzed, Jude Law’s Daughter Wears a Controversial Dress, and Uggs on the Sartorialist?

Fashion News Roundup: Kate Moss’s Arm is Paralyzed, Jude Law’s Daughter Wears a Controversial Dress, and Uggs on the Sartorialist?

Kate Moss’s Arm is Paralyzed: Don’t freak out! It’s only temporary. Lady Kate woke up in the Ritz Paris this past weekend to find herself unable to move her right arm and hand. Apparently the condition is caused by ulnar nerve entrapment, which, while nowhere near permanent, can take several months to totally disappear. Which means it might be a while till KM can work again– though, with all the photoshopping that goes on, it probably wouldn’t be much of a problem to edit Kate’s limp limb. {Daily Mail}

Jude Law’s Daughter’s Conversation-Starting Dress: 12-year-old Iris Law attended Vivienne Westwood’s show, with mum Sadie Frost, wearing a little babydoll Peter Pan-collared dress covered in a conversation hearts print. Sounds adorable, right? Except that, upon closer inspection, the sugary hearts read some not-so-sweet phrases like ‘Blow Me,’ ‘Please Drown,’ and our favorite, ‘Eat Shit.’ Sadie later apologized to the disapproving public via Twitter, claiming the oversight was a #genuinemistake. {Styleite}

High-End Retailers Are Doing Better Than Wal-Mart: For the ninth straight quarter, budget retail giant Wal-Mart is reporting major profit losses. But higher-end stores like Saks and Blommingdale’s have reported increasing profits, with customers spending more on such luxury goods as high-priced jewelry. It seems that Wal-Mart reduced its prices so sharply over the holidays, it actually lost profit. Would raising its prices and quality of goods (with Macy’s and Target-like collaborations, for example) help or hurt Wal-Mart? {New York Times}

Acne Fall 2012: Accident Prone

LONDON–Acne was the last show of a packed Sunday of London fashion week, and the fruity delicious cocktail offered to me by a lovely young guy wearing an all-black outfit (which included shorts, black knee socks, and black shoes), went down in about three seconds flat. If I could have pushed it via IV, I would have.

Perhaps that line of thinking got me focused on medical stuff, but this Acne collection looked like it could have walked straight out of an orthopedic unit. The pants were shown with girdle-like belts that sort of reminded me of those back support garments that movers wear. Some whiplash neck braces popped up, too, and there were a lot of flesh-toned garments reminiscent of ACE-bandages. But all very avant garde.

Trendspotting: Crop That Top!

Start doing your sit-ups now because the crop top is having its resurgence moment for spring 2012. Everyone from Acne to D&G to Prada showed crop tops on the runway, in all shapes and sizes. (Well, from small to teensy that is.) Which tiny style is your favorite?

Best Dressed: Jennifer Aniston in Prada, Alexa Chung in Chanel Couture and More

This week’s best dressed was all over the place–literally and figuratively. Jennifer Aniston wore something other than navy or black–finally!–when she chose this adorable Prada number for an event in Los Angeles. Our new style icon, Mimi Xu, wore Acne very well at the brand’s magazine launch during Paris couture, and Emma Watson took the princess route in Oscar de la Renta at the Harry Potter premiere in London. Alexa Chung dressed down Chanel couture at the Acne party, and Anne Hathaway did the whole red shoes/white dress thing for the Valentino couture show. We loved it all.

Paris Fall Couture Shows: Day 1

PARIS–New week, new fashion week–although the male collections were only 30 seconds ago and we’re still feeling sleep-deprived, couture is dragging us out of bed.

The entire city is sartorially obsessed for the week, and as if catwalks weren’t enough, heaps of exhibitions, openings and launches become mandatory.

Here is our selection from the first day:

Last Day of Men’s Spring 2012 Fashion Week: Will.i.a.m Models For Rynshu and Acne’s Impeccable

Men’s fashion week ended with two remarkable performances, which reminded us that a) male models are always a pleasure to watch b) this is basically a modern woman’s show c) couture week is minutes away and we’ve still got to recover from the fashion overdose of these past days.

RYNSHU:
The Japanese designer always puts on a black and white, fearless yet elegant show. This time, he followed the same recipe and offered warrior like clothes: scarves, blazers with sleeves seemingly ripped, silver army boots. But Rynshu had a surprise for us–front man of Black Eyed Peas Will.i.a.m modeled the show, as a sign of sympathy for Japan’s current condition. And there is more–the designer and the singer will be launching a collection together, entitled “WILL I AM x RYNSHU” for the SS2012 season. Unfortunately not made for lovely lady lumps.
