Four cities, one season: Fall 2013. Nemo kicked the collections off and every city to follow added its own dose of wintry chill. Somehow all that cold weather caused a discernible note of restraint to float through the collections. Don’t worry–the passion and excitement were still there, but designers actively pursued defining new ways we can really dress next fall. These looks felt grounded in the return of the “Lady,” as fashion’s pendulum swung away from the risqué, toward the refreshingly refined (spike-studded shoulders be damned). The “Moda” in Milan was certainly “Alta;” no denim or designer leggings to be found anywhere. Instead, we found gorgeous felt coats and tailored dresses–a new reserved chic, often refreshingly subverted with slightly rumpled styling. Ciao, Milan! It’s a little over a week till the official unofficial start of Red Carpet Season (AKA: the Emmys), and on the first day of Milan fashion Week Alberta Ferretti got the party started early sending out even-more-beautiful-than-usual shimmering, glimmering evening gowns. Meanwhile, Frida Giannini earned top marks with critics for turning back to the Dolce Vita era for a look that was very Gucci, if not Gucci, Gucci.

Just in time for wedding and prom season, Alberta Ferretti has cooked up a roster of perfect dresses–at prices we can afford–for Macy’s Impulse line.
From a pretty maxi frock with braided straps, to a super-hot one-shouldered evening gown, there’s seriously a dress for every occasion under the sun–and more. Ferretti also designed a handful of easy everyday pieces like open knit sweaters in cream and navy, and floral and lace tops. We saw part of the collection last night at the line’s launch party and we have to say, the pieces looked even more high-end and pretty IRL.
