Alice + Olivia Fall 2013: An Exercise in Excess

Opulence was the name of the game at Alice + Olivia for Fall 2013. Stacey Bendet took a decidedly darker direction this season, replacing the simple, girlish ’50s shapes of spring with texture, embellishments, and ultra-feminine silhouettes at her line’s presentation last night at the Highline Stages. A violinist accompanied the DJ spinning ’90s tunes Read more →

Trendspotting: Cozy Up In Blanket Coats

The bitter chill of winter can be cruel and unforgiving, which makes covering up so important. With every long coat in a neutral color that went down the runway (lots of dusters, actually), there was an answering blanket coat with a great graphic print to match it. The trend falls in lockstep with the gaucho/cowboy/nomad Read more →

Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet Fall 2012: Lolita Heads to the Red Carpet

Last night we popped down to Chelsea (along with Kevin Jonas, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jenna Dewan) to sip champagne, nosh on Magnum ice cream bars, and chat with adorable Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet about her fall 2012 vision for fashion.

“I always take into consideration the Alice + Olivia girl and who she is, and then I think about who I want her to be,” explains Bendet, who was all dressed up in a floor-length black and gold sequined gown topped with a turban-style hat. “This season she’s a sexy, rebellious Lolita-inspired vixen who can also play the charming innocent schoolgirl.”

Sex and the City Perfume Exists: And it is the fragrance most confiscated by customs officers. Who knew? {WWD subscription required}

Andrej Pejic Was on a Roof in New York: The gorgeous model was spotted shooting with photographer Sebastien Micke for an unknown project. One of the outfits is a very skimpy bandage-style bathing suit. So stunning that it makes us want to stop complaining about having small boobs. {Telegraph UK}

Alice + Olivia Spring 2012: Palm Beach Flair

Alice + Olivia is all about fun fashion, and Tuesday night’s presentation was a perfect example of that. As DJ Mia Moretti spun pop hits, accompanied by violinist Caitlin Moe, revelers—including the likes of LeAnn Rimes, Jordin Sparks, Tinsley Mortimer, Corinne Bailey Rae, Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicky Hilton—hit the bar (stocked with plenty of Veuve and Belvedere). Waiters with blended drinks from The Coffee Bean were also on hand offering fashion types a much needed boost of energy during a long week of shows.

The presentation’s backdrop was equally entertaining. Models stood on a large, raised square of Astro-Turf in the center of the Meatpacking’s Highline Stages, underneath large white gazebos and bird cages. Our favorite prop was a large tree in the center of the presentation with the brand’s candy colored shoes dangling down from the branches. “I wanted it to be a very secret garden,” said Stacey Bendet, who got into the spirit by wearing colorful flowers and feathers in her hair. “There are a lot of flowers and it’s just supposed to have this very kind of fun, happy uplifting feel,” she said. The cheerful looks channeled Palm Beach in the 1960’s with poppy colored shifts, floral maxi dresses, jersey jumpsuits, and a striking pair of black and white striped wide legs that Bendet does so well.

More specifically, we’ve noticed it on countless short dresses. And why not? Resort collections seem like the perfect place for fun, easy, and colorful clothing. In fact, many of the looks show few additional accessories, presenting them as ideal for simple, no-fuss dressing.

Whether through fringe, fabric or sequins, expect to see plenty of color-blocking in the next year. Click through to see highlights from the resort collections.
