Pre-Met Ball Partying with Net-a-porter

When Net-a-porter throws a party, it goes all out. Saturday night, NAP’s Natalie Massenet, Lucy Yeomans, and Alison Loehnis hosted a pre-Met Ball, pre-Frieze party at Omar’s, the as-yet unopnened private supper club on West 9th St. It was billed as a dinner, but quickly devolved into a several-hours-long cocktail hour with Valentino PR honcho Carlos Souza’s sons serving as DJs. Everyone was there. Literally everyone. From Inez and Vinoodh to Karolina Kurkova to Olivier Theyskens to Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez to Christopher Kane to Olivier Rousting to Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, the guest list was just purely bonkers. You couldn’t blink without bumping into someone you felt embarrassed about bumping into.

I spent the party trying to get the scoop on attendees Met Ball plans and punk pasts.

How to Blow Your Entire Tax Return in One Purchase
Fashion Is Fun

How to Blow Your Entire Tax Return in One Purchase

Maybe you’re super organized and filed your taxes months ago. Maybe you’re a last minute kind of person (like some of us) and just filed them. Either way, you should have some money coming your way after a year of forking over your salary to taxes. According to the IRS (via CBS), the average tax return in 2012 was $2,899.

Sure, you can choose to be responsible with your newly-acquired dough: Pay off credit cards, save for your retirement… OR, you can do the fun thing and blow the entire check in one sitting. It’s totally possible–with FASHION! Designer price points have gotten so high that the price for one luxury item–a dress, a bag, a pair of shoes–is approximately the cost of the average tax return. Sad but true.

The Top Trends from the Fall 2013 Runways

Four cities, one season: Fall 2013. Nemo kicked the collections off and every city to follow added its own dose of wintry chill. Somehow all that cold weather caused a discernible note of restraint to float through the collections. Don’t worry–the passion and excitement were still there, but designers actively pursued defining new ways we can really dress next fall. These looks felt grounded in the return of the “Lady,” as fashion’s pendulum swung away from the risqué, toward the refreshingly refined (spike-studded shoulders be damned). Check out our top trends for fall in the slide show.

Fur is Back in Fashion with a Vengeance: Will You Embrace It?

Fur is Back in Fashion with a Vengeance: Will You Embrace It?

Supporters call it “natural” and “sustainable.” Opposers say it’s cruel and inhumane. But whichever side you fall on, there’s no denying that fur had a major presence on the fall 2013 runways this past month, being hailed as one of the biggest trends for next season.

We scoured through every single photo of every single collection that walked this season and found that a startling 70% of the designers who showed during fashion month used fur in at least one look. Does this mean society is ready to embrace fur? Or is the fashion industry just trying to force it on us. We investigate.

We wish we were the “friend” holed up drinking wine with Jennifer Lawrence in Hawaii in these pap shots. Call us, Jen? {US Weekly}

Beyoncé had a pair of Isabel Marant wedge sneakers customized by PMK in exotic skins that include anaconda and stingray. Guess who’s upset? (Spoiler: It’s PETA). {HuffPo}

Rumor has it Kerry Washington abandoned a custom Marchesa gown for Miu Miu on Oscar night (risking the ire of Harvey Weinstein in the process–yikes!). Public apologies seem to be de rigueur, Kerry… {NYPost}
