The 3 Most Buzzed About Shows From Day 3 of Paris Fashion Week

Thursday designers went back to school–in some case, literally–as Alber Elbaz commenced his second decade at Lanvin with a concise essay on those icons of French femininity, le smoking and the LBD, at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. At Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière earned top marks for his more-pragmatic-than-usual collection inspired by the house founder’s ballet costumes, while at Balmain, Olivier Rousteing was deemed a quick study in the pop culture of the decade in which he was born.

Balmain Spring 2013

The Clothes: Sexy harlequin cartoon gangsters? From the ’90s? This is what I got from Olivier Rousteing’s spring 2013 show for Balmain. Balmain always emphasizes a strong shoulder but this time they were hugely exaggerated on extra-long blazers that came in stripes, harlequin diamonds, and a Versace/Miami-esque black and yellow print. These looks are not Read more →

Better late than never! Balmain is getting closer to its consumers by finally joining the social mediasphere. Starting today, you can follow the French fashion house’s goings-on at Facebook.com/BalmainParis and Twitter.com/Balmain. {WWD}

V Magazine enlisted the patriotic aid of Ke$ha and a trashed-out Carolyn Murphy for its Americana Issue. Our forefathers would be so proud. {ONTD, V Mag}

Getting lipstick on your teeth, camel toes, torn tights, and 18 other miserable fashion mishaps make up the 21 worst things in the fashion world. {SheFinds}

How low can you go? Apparently, there’s an entire fake Primark store in Dubai. {Telegraph}

Fashion News Roundup: Katy Perry Confuses Balmain for Hooker Gear, Mila Kunis is On a Boat for Dior, and Terry Richardson Shoots Colorful Commercials for Aldo

Katy Perry Makes a Funny at PFW: When asked about the revealing mini dress the Smurfette-tressed pop star donned recently in Paris, she replied, “It’s either Vegas hooker or Balmain.” And upon meeting Conde Nast chairman Jonathan Newhouse, Katy blurted out, “Newhouse– much better than old house!” Maybe the windows weren’t cracked quite enough during all those blue hair dying sessions, but we can’t say we mind the entertainment. {NY Mag}

Mila Kunis Shoots for Dior: Mila’s on a boat–or should we say, un bateau. The gorg actress and latest face of Dior was spotted looking tres chic as she shot a new campaign for the Parisian fashion house on La Seine. {Telegraph}

Alexa Chung Will Host Scottish Fashion Awards: Great Britain’s greatest Brit (fashion wise, anyway) is set to bring her quirky-cool brand of humor to the 7th annual Scottish Fashion Awards, in association with InStyle, this June. The awards celebrate the best of Scotch talent, and past honorees have included Christopher Kane, Holly Fulton, and Jonathan Saunders. Here’s hoping the program allows for multiple wardrobe changes for Alexa, a la Anne Hathaway at last year’s Oscars. {InStyle}

Balmain Fall 2012: How Elizabeth Taylor and Fabergé Eggs Influenced Olivier Rousteing’s Second Runway Collection

PARIS–In his second season at Balmain, designer Olivier Rousteing, who succeeded Christophe Decarnin last year, sent out a super ornate over-the-top opulent collection for fall inspired, he told WWD, by Elizabeth Taylor and Fabergé eggs. Specifically, one particular Fabergé egg that Richard Burton gave Elizabeth Taylor (Rousteing saw it in New York when he visited Read more →
