BCBG Max Azria Spring 2013

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2013

The Clothes: Minimalistic yet sexy, as is the norm for BCBG. Max Azria’s girls worked some extremes: work wear and lingerie; elongated silhouettes and open backs; bourgeois and bondage. The frilly flirty clothes were butched up with leather harnesses. All looks–including gowns made of crepe, tuxedo jackts made of silk-cotton, and print dresses of silk crepe–were paired with perfect little ankle-cuffed heels. These were heels that certainly embodied “bon chic bon genre.”

BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012: Color Blocked and Furry with a Loose-Lipped Front Row

When attending a show like BCBG Max Azria, you can expect an onslaught of pseudo-celebs, advertising-friendly editors and of course, a whole lot of color blocking. Yesterday’s 10am show was no exception. And while the crush of photogs angled for a glimpse of front row showgoers including Giada de Laurentiis, Maria Menounos and Erin Wasson, the beauty of the show was in the delicious details:

New York Spring 2012 Beauty Trend Alert: Slicked Back Faux Mullet

OK, so maybe we were getting tired of seeing easy, beachy waves and braids on runways, but we never dreamed this would be the alternative. We’ve seen an alarming number of designers giving their girls wet, slick hair, but leaving it dry in the back. The resulting look is decidedly mullet-like. And also screams, “I Read more →

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2012: Bold Colorblocking and Big-Name Models

BCBG Max Azria Spring 2012: Bold Colorblocking and Big-Name Models

Though its teen-approved pieces fall squarely into the contemporary market, BCBG always occupies a key time slot at the tents based on its sheer star power and enviable cast of catwalkers. This season was no exception, with a model lineup that included the likes of Arizona Muse (sadly sans Freja, her alleged significant other), Jacquelyn Jablonski, and Fei Fei Sun–major editorial stars, all.

For spring, husband-and-wife duo Max and Lubov Azria sent out a mix of decidedly sporty, fluid frocks in an array of Art-Deco-paneled brights. I especially loved the colorblocked, athletic-style jackets with translucent inserts–easy pieces that would look just as smart for day as they did thrown over the crepe dresses with which they were shown. And cutouts (of both the shoulder and lower-back variety) and flyaway, fin-like panels popped up on nearly every number, giving the whole affair an airy, carefree feel.

Halston Poaches from BCBG–More Changes at Both Labels

And the musical chairs continue. Former BCBG Max Azria Group president Ben Malka is Halston’s new chairman and CEO, WWD is reporting.

Malka, a former medical student, brings 16 years of experience in the trenches at BCBG, including a close relationship with Bloomingdale’s. According to the trade, Bloomie’s will carry Halston Heritage for the first time this fall. Not a bad score for a brand that’s had a hard time re-establishing an identity.

Halston is still without a creative director for its designer collection since Marios Schwab’s contract wasn’t renewed, but there’s speculation that Marie Mazelis, the former creative director of BCBG, may come on board at Halston.
