Four cities, one season: Fall 2013. Nemo kicked the collections off and every city to follow added its own dose of wintry chill. Somehow all that cold weather caused a discernible note of restraint to float through the collections. Don’t worry–the passion and excitement were still there, but designers actively pursued defining new ways we can really dress next fall. These looks felt grounded in the return of the “Lady,” as fashion’s pendulum swung away from the risqué, toward the refreshingly refined (spike-studded shoulders be damned). Burberry debuted their new nail polish line in a sultry dark, classic red. More specifically, in oxblood. And it wouldn’t be a Burberry show without a trench coat or two to match. It wasn’t long before we noticed the color showing up elsewhere in London.
Playing the name game in London is far from easy: So many cool young designers, so many unusual names, and only a week to make sense of them all. It’s largely due to the aversion many Brit design talents have to being crafted into the sort of the fashion celebs we adore stateside. No worries; the clothes spoke volumes for themselves, as London dialed down the quirked, and turned out one of the most sophisticated seasons in recent years. See for yourself!
It’s too bad Christopher Bailey’s fall 2013 Burberry show missed Valentine’s Day by only about four days. Dubbed ‘Trench Kiss’ by the designer, it was the most romantic, loved-up collection we’ve seen from the designer. Perhaps it was a love note to all of Bailey’s adoring fans–the front row included A-listers like Douglas Booth, Olivia Palermo, Melanie Laurent, Michelle Dockery, Rita Ora, Freida Pinto, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Kate Beckinsale.
There were hearts and leopard prints, which gave a quirky, girly twist to the brand’s signature trenches and daywear.
Burberry is undeniably the biggest, most star-studded show of London Fashion week. And it starts NOW (well it’s supposed to start at 4 p.m. in London, 11 a.m. here).

Pre-Fall 2013 has wrapped!…or has it?…Nobody can quite say for sure, but with the Fall 2013 shows quickly approaching in mid-February, we figured now was as good a time as any to take inventory of our favorites from “the season between seasons.”
The penultimate day of London Fashion Week was full of eye-catching looks, from electric bright trenches at Burberry to Peter Pilotto’s ecstatically exuberant digital prints. But Report Card knows when it comes to true displays of eccentricity, critics felt Christopher Kane’s girl carried the day with her sweet pastels, latex bows, and worm-like appliques all in the mix.
According to the Vogue UK, Adele might be collaborating with Burberry Prorsum’s creative director Christopher Bailey on a bespoke line geared towards plus-size women.
The trench got a metallic makeover. It was chopped and cropped into capelets, corsets, and capes in done shimmering shades of fuchsia, turquoise, green and bright red.
Harry Styles of One Direction (and his hair) and Dita Von Teese sat next to each other in the front row. Wonder what they talked about?
The designers of London fashion week sent out whimsical invitations that really appeal to the child in us: There were pop-up books from Burberry and Meadham Kirchhoff, a paint set (complete with a sketchbook) from Mulberry, and a credit card from Mark Fast (for the adult shopaholic in us).
