Carolina Herrera Will Sell the Wedding Dress She Designed for Bella Swan in Twilight: Breaking Dawn

Bella and Edward better stay together through 2012. It has just been announced that Carolina Herrera plans to produce the dress she designed for Kristen Stewart’s character in Breaking Dawn, just as Vera Wang did for the slightly less fictional wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries.

It’s a risky move given all of this year’s high-profile breakups, but perhaps 2012 will be the year of staying together. Though, in all seriousness, we bet there are a lot of ladies out there who would love nothing more than to walk down the aisle in Bella Swan’s wedding dress. Carolina told Reuters,

Five Unconventional Trends From Bridal Fashion Week

Don’t get us wrong: We love us some white, frothy wedding gowns.

That being said, it’s nice to see some variation on the runways every once and a while–and this season definitely showed a number of unconventional looks that were a refreshing change.

But while we love that bridal gown designers are thinking more outside the box: Does a bride really want to take a sartorial chance on her wedding day? (Doesn’t she already have too many other things to worry about?) Or do you think wearing an atypical gown is the perfect way for a bride-to-be to show off her individuality?

Check out the top five unconventional trends to emerge from bridal fashion week. Would you wear any of them on your big day?

Designer Uniforms: Here Are 10 Designers Who Always Wear the Same Thing
Fashion Is Fun

Designer Uniforms: Here Are 10 Designers Who Always Wear the Same Thing

One of the most interesting things, to me, about fashion designers is that their personal style often has no connection whatsoever to the clothes they design. The clothes they send down a runway each season may cover a wide range of styles and influences, but when the designer comes out for his or her requisite wave and/or bow at the end, they’re often wearing the same thing they wore the season before. Perhaps all of their creative energy is wrapped up in their work, so there’s nothing left to come up with a different outfit for themselves each day. Or, like the Mulleavys, maybe they’ve become detached from their work.

Whatever it is, there is a trend among designers of picking a certain look and sticking to it. Here are 10 who have done it to an extreme–some for a few months and some for entire decades. And remember Tina Fey’s advice: “A wise friend once told me,‘Don’t wear what fashion designers tell you to wear. Wear what they wear.’ His point being that most designers, no matter what they throw onto the runway, favor simple, flattering pieces for themselves.” It’s true!

Carolina Herrera Spring 2012: Pretty but Not Precious (Plus, Nicki Minaj)

Carolina Herrera Spring 2012: Pretty but Not Precious (Plus, Nicki Minaj)

The Carolina Herrera show got a lot of attention yesterday because of a random Nicki Minaj sighting and subsequent hilarious pictures that surfaced of her and Anna Wintour as seat mates. But there was another show going on, let’s not forget. Carolina Herrera worked her usual ladylike sophistication with a few twists thrown in for spring. (And I wore a signature white button down a la Herrera in her honor.)

All shades of garden green were woven into plaid and adorable sparrow prints on dresses and separates. Decidedly more graphic than her usual outings, with flourishes of deco and modern art, it was well suited to her buttoned-up gallery hopping clientele that keep up with the times by speaking highly of Koons while secretly preferring Winterhalter.

Breaking [Dawn]: Carolina Herrera Confirmed as Bella Swan’s Wedding Dress Designer

Breaking [Dawn]: Carolina Herrera Confirmed as Bella Swan’s Wedding Dress Designer

Bella Swan and Edward Cullen’s pending big screen nuptials may not quite be at the level of the royal wedding in terms of all the fuss that surrounded its dress designer, but a comparable number of people will see it, and there has been speculation. Zac Posen swiftly denied rumors that he was the designer back in November. And somehow, InStyle got several designers, including Monique Lhuillier, Prabal Gurung and Erin Fetherston, to sketch dresses for the fictional soon-to-be vampire.

Rumors that Herrera would be the official Breaking Dawn wedding dress designer began Friday and Twilight saga production company Summit Entertainment confirmed this last night via Facebook and Twitter, so thousands of tweens probably found out before we did!

Who Should Wear What To the Oscars: Our Red Carpet Suggestions

Predicting what the nominees will wear to the Oscars is trickier than picking the winners.

There are probably over 100 amazing Oscar-worthy dresses that walk the runway each season, but the reality is that most celebs would rather stick with a safe choice than a fashion forward one. This year, however, the nominees have a better fashion history than most. Nicole Kidman has turned heads in Galliano and Balenciaga, Michelle Williams favors the up-and-coming crowd, and Hailee Steinfeld is not afraid to take a daring risk, be it in Prada or Prabal.

Click through to see what I hope the nominees are wearing this Sunday.
