The first official day of “spring” is tomorrow. Apparently. (With another snow day yesterday we’re starting to doubt spring will ever come.) Even though the weather is still kind of miserable, we’ve already started our spring shopping lists. Here’s what we’re all craving if warmer weather ever happens. Fingers crossed.
A common observation following a runway show is, “That was styled really well.” In some cases, the styling can make or break a collection, which is why people like Katie Grand, Vanessa Traina and Brad Goreski have jobs during fashion week. Carven’s creative director, Guillaume Henry, always likes his quintessentially ’60s Parisian girl to travel: She’s gone to swinging London for resort 2013; she’s gone on vacation to Brittany and Bavaria (remember the lederhosen in Spring 2012?); she’s gotten medieval on us (in Fall 2012), and this season, like in Back to the Future, she seems to have time traveled. Flash forward and believe it or not, there were hints of the garish ’80s in Carven’s fall line up in the way of bold zebra stripe pattern on leather dresses, tops and little box bags; a penchant for hot pink and pastels; and, yes, crimped hair. When we heard the news a few weeks ago that Petit Bateau and Carven were collaborating on a capsule collection, we couldn’t wait to see all the sure-to-be covetable pieces that would come out of the partnership. And now, that day has arrived.
Behold, the full Petit Batea x Carven capsule collection.
The Carven girl as imagined by designer Guillaume Henry is young, precious and Parisian at her core. Ever since Henry took the helm of the revived Carven label three years ago, we’ve kinda wanted to be that girl.
The collection stuck to Carven’s signature silhouettes–blazers with rounded lapels, girly dresses with tear-shaped cutouts, cropped sweaters with sharp little collars–but showed a moodier, darker palette. Perhaps the Carven girl is growing up.
Going to the Barneys Warehouse sale when it is empty is a cock tease. There, I said it. So I guess I have designer shopping blue balls now? Okay, this is starting to get weird and gross. Anyway, I got the chance to preview the Barneys Warehouse sale just now and having never gone before Read more →
