UFOs Inspired Delfina Delettrez’s Latest Collection

Delfina Delettrez sometimes seems like she’s from another planet.

The 25-year-old jewelry designer and fourth generation Fendi is gorgeous, has this preternatural calm about her (the excellent posture helps), dresses ever so elegantly, and yet churns out these freaky, macabre, wildly imaginative creations season after season. But for fall 2013, Delettrez truly was looking to the otherworldly for inspiration. We’re talking X-Files stuff here: UFOs, aliens, mysterious lights in the sky.

So does Delettrez believe? We asked.

Here’s the First Pic of Sarah Jessica Parker, Outfitted by Anna Wintour, as the Editor of Vogue.com on Glee

Earlier this month, Glee creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker would guest star on season four of the series playing the editor of Vogue.com–and that Anna Wintour would take care of the costumes. (Remember that Wintour’s daughter Bee Shaffer works for Murphy’s production company, so… family connections.) And earlier today, Murphy tweeted the Read more →

Delfina Delettrez Walks Us Through Her Amazingly Trippy, Slightly Creepy, First Ever Jewelry Exhibit

Last week in Florence at a modern white open space in the Galleria Antonella Villanova, jewelry designer Delfina Delettrez Fendi presented her first ever exhibition. She called it, fittingly, The Delphinarium.

At just 24, and having only designed jewelry for the past five years, she’s young to be presenting a retrospective of her past 10 collections. If you didn’t know her work and talent, it might even sound audacious. But Delettrez is one of the most imaginative talents around–and the exhibition she conceived of to present her jewelry was modest–not to mention clever, inventive, and slightly creepy. With live animals, to boot.

What I Saw at Paris Fashion Week, Day 2

Day 2, Paris fashion week, over. Check. I saw Carven, Balmain, and Nina Ricci. I saw massive chandeliers at two out of three of those shows (guess which ones?). Delfina Delettrez walked me through her wonderfully imaginative fall jewelry. I also got the gorgeous Hanneli Mustaparta to show off her mysterious armor-leotard get-up. I thought Read more →

Fashion News Roundup: FHM Philippines Pulls Racist Cover, Kate Middleton Wears M Missoni, and Emma Watson To Star in Sofia Coppola Film

FHM Philippines Scraps Racist Cover: FHM Philippines planned to publish their March issue with a cover featuring local fair-skinned actress, Bela Padilla pushing past a group of Filipina models painted to appear black. The offending photo was captioned “stepping out of the shadows.” As expected, FHM Philippines “apologized” profusely, saying, “In our pursuit to come up with edgier covers, we will strive to be more sensitive.” When the BBC asked Ms. Padilla about the cover, she expressed surprise at the negative reaction, claiming they “weren’t thinking of racial discrimination” during the shoot. It seems Ms. Padilla and co. weren’t thinking at all. {BBC}

Kate Moss, Not Alexa Chung, Was Supposed to Float on Knives at Stella McCartney’s Party: The model was set to be in illusionist Hans Klok’s magic act, but her paralyzed arm kept her from participating. Alexa Chung, being the trooper she is, stepped in at the last minute. {Grazia}

Kate Middleton Wears an M Missoni Coat: What’s that you say? Kate Middleton wore clothes on a visit somewhere? Fancy that! The Duchess hit up Fortnum & Mason yesterday in a blue M Missoni coat and grey suede pumps. {Grazia}

14 Pieces of Jewelry Women Actually Want to Receive on Valentine’s Day

Let’s face it: Most men don’t have the best taste in jewelry. We’ve seen enough tacky diamonds and hideous gold necklaces to know that.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we’ve compiled a list of all the jewelry that a woman would actually want, as a handy, last minute guide for all the gents out there. Overnight shipping may come in handy in these situations.

There’s a cute bunny necklace from Hillier, Margiela cuffs, and a little Lanvin for the romantic in everyone. Ladies, it’s probably a good idea to send your favorites to your beaus now, just so they have some time to return that nameplate necklace and get you something you really want.

Seven Questions For Delfina Delettrez

Delfina Delettrez creates jewelry that is not for the shy of heart. Her dramatic baubles take the form of eyes, arachnids, skeletons, and frogs, mixing the surreal with the luxurious.

These aren’t basic jewels for trophy wives: these are amazing artistic creations meant for the bold. It makes sense that Delfina designs for strong women, as her life is filled with them. (Her mother, Silvia Venturini, is the creative director for accessories at Fendi).

We love Delettrez’s designs so much, we included them in our fantasy holiday wish list . So we were thrilled to have the opportunity to interview the young designer about her line.
