For her spring 2013 Donna Karan New York and DKNY campaigns, Donna Karan cast two of the industry’s youngest and hottest models: Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss.
It was an instant hit of classic Donna walking into Donna Karan‘s airy showroom yesterday to preview the designer’s 2013 pre-fall collection. The city skyline seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows was a fitting frame to this black and white sculptural collection meant to be “tailored to life in the city,” according to the line sheets.
Often, when someone meets a designer or famous person, we’re bombarded with stories of how ‘real’ these mythical characters actually are in the flesh. But Burberry‘s Christopher Bailey is here to debunk those ridiculous relatable fables once and for all–and we are so, so grateful.

We were obsessed with January Jones’s black Zac Posen gown from the second she stepped onto the red carpet at last night’s Emmy Awards. The stripey-sheer frock was a total stunner: Avant garde yet Fashion Police-friendly, a mark the real life Skinny Betty hasn’t always made. But for DKNY PR Girl, Jan’s dress stood out for a different reason altogether…
What makes a street style starlet? Is it her fearlessness in the face of fashion, her ability to pull off the latest runway trends? Or, is it the fact that she has a photographer trailing her around Lincoln Center, asking her to pose just-so in that sunny spot over there? This NYFW, we wanted to find out for ourselves–with the help of some electronic cat ears, a big furry hat, and a case of runway-approved pink-eye.
This season at NYFW has been really effing weird from a makeup trend perspective. For the most part, faces have been natural with some contouring and highlighting here and there. Lipstick has been practically non-existent (Diane Kendal’s gorgeous Helmut Newton lips at Jason Wu being an exception), with some makeup artists even going so far as using foundation and concealer to cover lips up completely. So the color story is in the eyes for spring 2013. And it scares us a little.
Where Donna Karan’s contemporary line, DKNY, was inspired by the daily hustle of the city and the working girls who inhabit it, for her spring namesake collection Karan evoked the serenity of NYC–those moments when you’re entering the city by car or train and it somehow manages to seem still and calm.
