Eddie Borgo’s New Jewelry Boxes are Like the Fanciest Caboodles You’ve Ever Seen

Remember how cool caboodles were?

Eddie Borgo‘s just-launched jewelry boxes are like the chicest caboodles we’ve ever seen. Of course, we’re probably just blinded by ’90s nostalgia. Borgo modeled his jewelry boxes after classic train cases. They were handcrafted in Italy and come embellished in exotic skins like snakeskin, something called “terra lizard,” crocadile and shagreen. Gold triangle details along the borders mimic Borgo’s signature spiked jewelry. So basically, these are the opposite of that plastic caboodle you had when you were 13.

Eddie Borgo Walks Us Through His Awesomely ’90s Costume Jewelry-Inspired Spring Collection

There’s always something very specific inspiring jewelry designer Eddie Borgo.

Last season his collection was influenced by the cogs and gears and machinery hidden beneath New York’s city streets–the stuff that makes Gotham hum. This season he did a bit of a 180. For spring 2013, he was inspired by a person–the legendary, the infamous, stylist Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele, and her work from the late ’80s and early ’90s. (And so you can add Borgo to the list of designers feeling the ’90s this season.)

Click through to see the collection and hear what Borgo had to say about it.

Fashion News Roundup: Sneak Peak at Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Mini Line for Target, Jay-Z’s Designing Brooklyn Nets Uniforms and Another Critic Disses Tom Ford

First look at Gwen Stefani’s Baby Clothes: Here’s a taste of what’s to come from Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Mini line for Target, which will hit stores November 13. Sizing will range from 6 months to 16 years, which means we, and possibly Nicki Minaj, may be able to fit into some under-$30 Harajuku tutus. {Celebrity Babies}

Jay-Z’s Designing Jerseys with Adidas: Jay-Z, prolific hip hop artist, clothing designer and co-owner of the newly named Brooklyn Nets, will proudly be designing the team’s new uniform in collaboration with Adidas. {New York Post}

Another Critic Dares to Critique Tom Ford: Le Figaro‘s Virginie Mouzat has recently given her account of Tom Ford’s exclusive show during London Fashion Week. Like Lynn Yaeger and Jess Cartner-Morley, Mouzat gave a review that was not exactly glowing. In fact, she literally calls it “an out-of-style Gucci collection from ten years ago” and then goes on to list all of the other designers she thinks Ford copied. {Le Figaro via The Cut}

Moda Operandi is Collaborating With Polyvore on a Contest Where You Get to Dress Lauren Santo Domingo and Aslaug Magnusdottir

Starting today, users of Polyvore will not only get to put together outfits for Moda Operandi co-founders Lauren Santo Domingo and Aslaug Magnusdottir, but might actually win something for it. Participants must create a head-to-toe look for either Lauren or Aslaug. The two of them will personally choose one winner to receive the very cute Eddie Borgo’s Bear Trap Bangles pictured below and a $200 gift card to be spent on Moda Operandi.

We’re guessing, then, that the winner will be chosen based on what the two stylish girls feel is the closest to something they would actually wear.

2011 CFDA Awards: From Kanye and Phoebe to Sofia and Marc

Last night’s CFDA Awards were a decidedly star-studded affair, what with Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Sofia Coppola, Jessica Alba, Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, and host Anderson Cooper spending time on the stage. Cooper had to leave early because of “that Weiner thing,” or so Diane von Furstenberg said, but otherwise the audience received plenty of face time with their star of choice–there were even a couple of moments when one could forget this was, you know, a fashion industry event. But only a couple.

Prabal Gurung You Can Actually Afford: See the Designer’s Collaboration For J.Crew

As part of J.Crew‘s partnership with the CFDA, the specialty retailer asked the winner (Billy Reid) and runners up (Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo) of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Billy Reid’s menswear collection for the preppy purveyor was up last month, and now, finally, something us ladies can wear: Prabal Gurung. And for once, thanks to J.Crew’s lower price points, it’s Prabal Gurung we can actually afford. Or at least we can try to rationalize spending $198 on a pair of pants. Because those pants are awesome.

The collection is available for pre-order on J.Crew’s site now, as is a cute photo collage of Gurung’s mood board for his collection, which is comprised of silk blouses, a suit, a dress and a pair of tuxedo pants, and is overall bow-happy but in a good way. Prices range from $198 to $450 and we suggest placing your orders ASAP as the collection is extremely limited–only 50 pieces were produced for some items. Take a look.
