The notes for Elie Tahari’s fall collection said that it was inspired by an urban landscape covered in a Siberian winter–prescient, considering that New York City became just that after last weekend’s snowstorm. In fact, Nemo was the inspiration for the show space, improvised at the last minute. Tahari called in his friend, artist Gisela Read more →
The light at the end of the tunnel is near as we power through day seven of New York Fashion Week. Or maybe we’re just still thinking about the fluorescent lights at Rodarte’s show this afternoon?
Either way, fashion week is almost over, so we’ve been snap-happy trying to take in all of its goodness before it’s too late.
Here’s what we saw today.
Fashion week is approaching the end, but we’re not slowing down anytime soon. We checked out Thom Browne‘s crazy presentation, Zero + Maria Cornejo‘s sporty neoprene pieces, and Elie Tahari‘s vibrant spring collection.
The Clothes: Vibrant color took center stage at Elie Tahari with shades of lime, coral, fuchsia and orange appearing throughout. Even the darker colors like navy seemed to have contrast lining or trim. The color palette combined with softer fabrics like linen sent a tropical message that seems to be popping up throughout the spring Read more →
Flash sale sites come and go, but the original just can’t be beat. That’s why we still love vente-privee, the Parisian-based flash sales website that launched in 2001. Their concept was easy enough: each day the site would host a sale of a designer brand, available only to its members, taking the sample sale into Read more →

What was the last thing you bought? A white, peplum T-shirt.
What would you never wear? A camisole by itself.
The Office‘s Mindy Kaling Relaunches Blog, is Hilarious and Awesome: The Concerns of Mindy Kaling is full of honest and LOL-worthy observations and tips, like what jewelry to wear if “you want to look laid back but rich, like say, Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend.” There’s a good chance you’ll start believing she’s your actual BFF… word of warning. {MTV Style}
Apparently Wearing Makeup Makes You More Likable: Studies conducted by Procter & Gamble, which (a bit suspiciously) produces a huge array of makeup products, show that women who wear makeup are perceived as more likable, competent, and trustworthy than those who do not. The only exception was for women wearing “glam” makeup, who seemed less trustworthy. Are you listening, Kardashian Klan? {The Gloss}
Lindsay Lohan at PFW with Fash Folk: Remind me again, what exactly does Lindsay Lohan do these days, aside from being photographed? Here’s the… ahem, actress, hanging out and making various hand gestures with Terry Richardson, Lindsey Wixson, and Charlotte Free in Paris. {Refinery29 via Terry’s Diary}
Joe Zee is a busy, busy man these days. Along with performing his day job as creative director at Elle, he’s hosting the second season of his reality show All on the Line, jetsetting to Fashion Week shows around the globe, helping aspiring fashion students, and popping into the Soho Elie Tahari boutique — along with Mr. Elie Tahari himself — to help a bunch of fashion bloggers style outfits from the label’s fall 2011 collection. This wasn’t just a random visit. Zee has been consulting with Elie Tahari for multiple seasons and just recently styled the brand’s spring 2012 runway show.
While we waited for Zee to make his way through snarling rush hour traffic, we had a chance to peruse the Elie Tahari fall offerings. Amongst the tweedy details, lush leathers, macro-lace, and ruching embellishments, the favorites of the editors seemed to be the black lace-trimmed leather shorts (totally practical, we swear), a grey-hued leopard print ruffle neck Clarissa trench, and a soft cranberry ruffle-layered Victoria coat. Once Zee arrived, we ambushed him with some questions as he was in the midst of pulling a white nipped-waist and flared pantsuit for a guest.
Elie Tahari has seen success in the fashion biz for over 40 years. So to ensure his success for the next 40, this week he’s relaunched his website, elietahari.com. The revamped site features an enhanced e-commerce experience, a “social media” component, and a bulked up editorial component that sees Elie himself interviewing celebrities and curating pages.
We chatted with the Israeli-born fashion mogul about his new editorial role, the celebrity interviews he’d like to score, and the point of view he’ll bring to his new site. We can only hope it’s as honest, charming, and hilarious as Elie is in conversation.
Fashionista: We read this quote from you that we kind of love, that says you greet each day with a “Don’t you fuck with me today.” Can we look forward to that kind of attitude and editorial voice on your new site and in your new webzine, ETC?
Elie Tahari: [Laughs] Why not?
