Wal-Mart, Gap Fail to Sign Bangladesh Safety Agreement

Wal-Mart, Gap Fail to Sign Bangladesh Safety Agreement

Earlier this week news broke that H&M, Zara and C&A had joined PVH, the parent company of Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Izod, and German retailer Tchibo in signing onto the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, a legally-binding agreement which requires retailers to help finance the fire and safety improvements needed in the area.

And while the move has inspired some retailers to join plan, others, like Wal-Mart, Topshop and Gap, have failed to do so.

Vogue Netherlands in Blackface, Beyoncé’s Many Nipple Outfits, and the Gap Look Book Impresses
Week In Review

Vogue Netherlands in Blackface, Beyoncé’s Many Nipple Outfits, and the Gap Look Book Impresses

Fashion Just Won’t Quit Blackface: Really, Vogue Netherlands? In 2013 we should not still be seeing blackface in our magazines.

The BB Cream Blind Test: We hold a blind BB cream testing session to find the “cream” of the BB crop. Check out our top three faves.

Beyoncé Takes Center Stage With Nipple Costumes: Fake nipples seem to be a recurring theme on Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. The singer opened her tour last Tuesday in a blinged-out nipple dress by The Blonds, and wore another gold-nippled bodysuit by Ralph & Russo Couture only two days after.

Has Gap Finally Found Its Sartorial Groove Under Rebekka Bay?

Has Gap Finally Found Its Sartorial Groove Under Rebekka Bay?

Gap’s new creative director Rebekka Bay officially started work October 1, 2012–and in Gap’s fall look book, we’re finally getting a glimpse at Bay’s influence. Doesn’t it look expensive? And super sophisticated? And vaguely Cos-like?

Well if it does, it’s probably because Bay, who helped found Cos, had a hand in the way the look book was styled and presented.

My Fashion Week Nightmare…with Lucky Mag’s Lauren Sherman

Anyone who works in the industry has had ‘em: A fashion week related nightmare. We asked designers, editors and stylists to share theirs with us, and then we asked our friend (and super talented artist) Mara Sprafkin illustrate them. Don’t be scared… Yesterday the Vena Cava girls told us about their Western-meets-S+M fashion show for Read more →

Fashionista Week in Review: Vogue‘s Model Behavior, the 25 Most Influential Women Designers and Kate Upton Gets More Famous

One Small Step for Vogue: One giant step for fashion-kind. All 19 editions of Vogue announced this week they will no longer work with unhealthy-looking models or girls under 16.

Linda’s Child Support Demands: Making her “$10,000 to get out of bed” claims look downright tame, Linda Evangelista is asking for $46,000 a month in child support (that’s $552,000 a year). Unsurprisingly, the court battle is getting a little dirty.

Rules to Retail By: An anonymous ex-retail employee lays down the law when it comes to shopping. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

Tom Ford’s Naughty Lookbook: In typical Tom Ford style, his spring 2012 menswear lookbook features nudity and ass pinching.

Sasha Pivovarova Makes Her Designer Debut For the Gap

It isn’t enough that supermodel Sasha Pivovarova has a legitimate career as a painter or that she’s set to make her acting debut in In Time with Justin Timberlake, now the Russian beauty is taking yet another step outside the bounds of her model job description to design a line for the Gap, Vogue UK is reporting. Sigh, is there anything this woman can’t do? (And look impossibly gorgeous while doing it?)

The sleepwear and lingerie collection will consist of six pieces, including underwear sets, camisoles, nightdresses and boyshorts, all of which are inspired by fairy tales. Given Sasha‘s background as a painter, we’re guessing she might have had a hand in creating the botanical-inspired print that covers the line.

Gap Spring 2012: Get Ready to Fall (Spring?) Into the Gap Again
Reviews

Gap Spring 2012: Get Ready to Fall (Spring?) Into the Gap Again

The Gap went through some tough times this year. They fired Patrick Robinson, the creative director and face of the brand (and still haven’t named a successor), and then there was that whole logo change fiasco.

So we’re happy to report, after taking a tour through Gap’s spring collection yesterday, that the retailer is back on track. They’ve returned to the casual Americana that made them a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. It’s back to the basics–jeans, tees, cotton dresses, striped sweaters–but with a focus on making them true quality stand-bys you can rely on and mix with your fancier designer pieces. There’s an emphasis on comfort, but not at the cost of style.
