Peek-a-Boo, I See You: Designers Go Sheer, Slashed and See-Through

You might want to invest in some really nice bras and panties come spring–you know, the kind you won’t mind everyone seeing. That is unless you want to wear these looks directly off the Paris runways–in which case, just throw them out.

There’s always a bit of nudity on the runways, especially in Paris where they just don’t care as much, but from completely sheer frocks, to hip-high slits (and Karlie Kloss’ bare bum closing Dior), we’ve seen more of models than usual. While we don’t mind a little nudity on the runway, let’s just hope this trend doesn’t catch on with the red carpet crowd (Lindsay Lohan, we’re looking at you).

And now, without further ado, our favorite peek-a-boo moments from the collections.

Gareth Pugh on His New Makeup Collaboration with MAC: ‘It’s Kind of Like a Weapon’

MAC is teasing us mercilessly about the brand’s impending collaboration with Brit designer Gareth Pugh. News leaked a few weeks ago that the designer and MAC, who have worked together on runway shows since the beginning of the designer’s career, are doing a limited edition makeup collection which will hit counters in November.

MAC hosted a party last night to fete Gareth and the collab, and left us wanting to know much, much more–which we suppose is the whole point. This collection is going to be major, whether you’re a makeup nerd or not.

Gareth Pugh’s BF Poses In Nothing But His Boots for Nick Knight: Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio released this stunning portrait of Gareth Pugh and his boyfriend Carson McColl today. {SHOWstudio}

Michael Kors’ Dream Collab: In Booth Moore’s recent Michael Kors profile Kors told her, “I want a deal with In-N-Out Burger — to do a special sauce or a wrapper. I’m horseradish-obsessed!” Fair enough. Horseradish is delicious. {LA Times}

The Man Repeller Does Kimberly Taylor’s Fall Look Book: Last season Andrew Mukamal styled Kimberly Taylor’s spring look book. This season, Taylor’s enlisted the Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine to style and star in her fall 2011 look book in two parts: “Man Getting” and “Man Repelling.” Medine will also host Taylor’s presentation during fashion week. {Refinery 29}

Gareth Pugh at Pitti: Video and Images From The Collection

FLORENCE–Ruth Hogben’s video of Gareth Pugh‘s special Pitti Uomo collection was masterful in capturing the lauded young designer’s brand. Whether or not it truly conveyed the beauty–and dare I say wearability?–of the actual clothes is another story. Indeed, Pugh put out some truly extraordinary pieces, some of which belong only on stage or on Daphne Guinness, and others which any fashion lover can dream of wearing.

The gowns, shown on models during the reception, were to be worn–not displayed. A favorite was a blue/turquoise style, which proved–to me, at least–that Pugh is not only worth his weight in showmanship, but also in desirability. There is a reason the luxury fashion houses watch him closely: it’s because he’s special.

Finally, I cannot stress the beauty of this ancient space, as you can see from the images. In this instance, fashion is art and at is fashion–there’s no argument about it.

(A less serious side note: After the film, I noticed everyone running towards one end of the room. I thought the models were coming up from the floor or something. In real life, it was just a bar stampede. I guess I don’t drink enough.)

Five Reasons We’re Stoked for Pitti

Five Reasons We’re Stoked for Pitti

I’m heading off to Pitti Uomo and Pitti W next week, Florence’s men’s and women’s fairs. Other than eating authentic Neapolitan pizza, which I’m clearly most excited about, there are a ton of great events and shows going on during the week that are sure to make it a memorable few days:

1. Trussardi dal 1911. The Italian house will celebrate its 100th birthday at Pitti with a Fall 2011 runway show. The show will be live-streamed on www.trussardi.com, and brand devotees will be able to buy certain items immediately following the event on www.thecorner.com. There will also be a ton of great pieces from Trussardi’s archives on hand–including gloves from the original Dante Trussardi glove factory–for attendees to view.

2. Liberty’s Men’s Club Cocktail Party. When I lived in London I attended many Liberty of London cocktail parties. I remember one in particular, for jeweler Shaun Leane, where Elton John, Isabella Blow, and Sam Taylor Wood all showed up. Add some canapes, fancy decor, Champagne, and what you have equals magic. So yes, despite my old lady disposition, I’m am thrilled to clink glasses with the Liberty crew yet again. This time around, we’ll be celebrating the launch of their menswear collection, produced by Slowear.

Lulu & Co Launches on Thursday With Pieces Designed By Gareth Pugh, Marios Schwab, Jonathan Saunders

Lulu Kennedy might not be a fashion household name here in the States, but if you’re part of the industry in London, she’s somewhat of a demigoddess. The founder of Fashion East launched the careers of some of the UK’s most beloved designers, from Richard Nicoll to Jonathan Saunders.

Now Kennedy has teamed up with several of those clothiers to create Lulu & Co, a caspule collection that hits stores on Thursday. (Specifically Matchesfashion.com, Harvey Nichols, Colette and Restir Tokyo.)

The launch includes dresses from 10 designers, and we want them all. Click through to pick your favorite.

Tim Gunn’s At It Again: Tim Gunn has already shared his thoughts on Anna Wintour. Now it Lady Gaga’s turn. He told Yahoo’s OMG: “Who would want to emulate that? It’s not fashion. Those are costumes.” Really? She’s worn Armani, Gareth Pugh, Jeremy Scott, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana. Aren’t they fashion designers? {Racked}

Revolver is a Magazine That Exists and Taylor Momsen is on the Cover: Taylor Momsen is on the cover of Revolver magazine holding a bunch of, well, revolvers, and wearing black lingerie. We get it, Taylor–you’re tough, you’re old enough to make you own discussions, and you should be allowed to stay out past midnight. Now, go put on some clothes. {Huffington Post}

Jefferson Hack Interviews Gareth Pugh About Fashion Films Intead Of Runway Shows and His Hong Kong Store

PARIS–Days after Brit expat Gareth Pugh’s Mercury and Ebony S/S 2011 collection was presented on an 8 x 15 meter Imax screen to a warehouse full of buyers and press, the avant-garde designer sits for an informal Q&A at the Louvre’s Apple Store. The avant-gardeist snapped up France’s ANDAM award in 2008 and was rumored as next in line at McQueen and Dior Homme. The last in a series presented by Dazed and Confused called “Meet the Designer” the magazine’s co-founder Jefferson Hack talks with the young designer about the tentative future of catwalk shows, his sold-out shop in Hong Kong and why Saint Martins does not a star make.

Jefferson Hack: Gareth’s first store opened in Hong Kong in July. It was designed by Iwan from from Daytrip Studio who is super young, like 25. What was it like working with him?
Garreth Pugh: I’ve known him since he was 18 and we’re very good friends, I think that helps.
My two stipulations were that I wanted it to look like a black box inside and that one wall could control video.
