It’s been a season of second, third, and even fourth chances. After stints at Perry Ellis, Paco Rabanne, and Gap, designer Patrick Robinson is once again staging a comeback–this time, as creative director of Armani Exchange.
Currently waiting in the wings is former Dior designer John Galliano, who has been assisting in Oscar de la Renta’s atelier and is purportedly in talks to teach at Parsons.
We can’t say for sure whether either of these comebacks will take, but we can tell you about the returns other designers have staged in the past. Here are fashion’s greatest comeback stories:
Thanks to Nemo dumping 10 inches of snow on NYC–not to mention frigid temperatures in the 20s–outerwear was at the front of everyone’s minds this past week. Luckily, New York designers were totally on top of it and offered a pretty stellar selection of coats and jackets for fall 2013.
Fashion week came, and brought a feisty lil’ friend named Nemo along for the ride–forcing us to consider forgoing, “Well, doesn’t she look chic!” for, “Well, doesn’t she look warm?!” The runways begged to differ, offering up endless new ways to bundle-up beautifully for fall 2013. Check out our top ten trend takeaways from the fashion week that weathered the storm in style.
We’ve seen tasteful nude nails backstage for fall 2013, and some original nail art–both of which we expected. More unexpected? Decidedly dull nails. And by dull we don’t mean boring–we mean shine-free. (Well, except for Marc Jacobs’ shiny new line.) Yep, matte nails are offically a trend.
New reviews and galleries are in! Check out Helmut Lang, Sally LaPointe, and Carmen Marc Valvo.
If there is one constant at New York fashion week that I can rely on, it is the fact that Helmut Lang will show multiple jackets I will covet, tons of leather I will lust after, and a slick modern print. Check, check, and check for fall 2013.
Pre-Fall 2013 has wrapped!…or has it?…Nobody can quite say for sure, but with the Fall 2013 shows quickly approaching in mid-February, we figured now was as good a time as any to take inventory of our favorites from “the season between seasons.”
Lately it seems like reunions are everywhere: the Beverly Hills gang in Old Navy commercials, Entertainment Weekly‘s Reunions Issue, the upcoming Arrested Development reunion (the only one that truly matters, let’s get real). Funnily enough, no one called us to see who we’d like to see reunited, so we thought we’d make our own list. We’re not ones to be left out of a trend after all! We put our thinking caps on to come up with ten fashion reunions we’d like to see here at Fashionista – we will even moderate. It’s guaranteed to be way chicer than your high school reunion.
If you haven’t changed your beauty look since the 90s, you’re in luck–it was all over the runways for spring.
We’ve got even more amazing Spring 2013 show notes and galleries coming your way! Experience the sleek sexiness of Cushnie et Ochs, Helmut Lang‘s new print direction, and the architectural spirit of Yigal Azrouel.

The Clothes: I always expect to see a certain look at Helmut Lang (you know what I’m talking about), but creative directors Michael and Nicole Colovos took a break from the dark palette and abstract prints we’ve been seeing the last several seasons. They may have taken a tiny bit of inspiration from Proenza Schouler’s Read more →
