Fashion News Roundup: Balenciaga Gets E-Commerce, Courtney Cox Writes For XOJane and Victoria Beckham’s Style Evolution

Victoria Beckham’s Style Evolution: In honor of her newborn baby girl, Harper Seven, Vogue UK traces Beckham’s sartorial choices from her not-so-posh Spice Girl days to her current, decidedly more tasteful style. {Vogue UK}

Balenciaga Launching E-Commerce: Notoriously un-Web-savvy, Nicholas Ghesquière is finally stepping up his site to sell all of the brand’s products, including runway ready-to-wear, and become “almost like a daily magazine” with tons of photos and short films by visual artists and photographers conscripted by the designer. Is a blog not far behind? {WWD}

Lady Gaga’s Second V Column: No purchase necessary to read the latest “From The Desk Of Lady Gaga.” This time she talks about… umm… costumes? Fantasy? It doesn’t really make a lot of sense or say anything an average drag queen wouldn’t, but if you’re still intrigued check it out online. {V}

10 Looks Kate Middleton Should Wear on Her Honeymoon

10 Looks Kate Middleton Should Wear on Her Honeymoon

As you’ve probably already heard, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took off for their honeymoon today. According to the official Royal Wedding blog, the site of the newlywed’s honeymoon “which will be overseas, will not be disclosed in advance…the Couple have asked that their privacy be respected during the coming weekend and during their honeymoon.”

Oops! Secret’s out! The British tabs are reporting that Kate and Wills will be honeymooning on a private island in the Seychelles. And while Kate will most likely wear some of the sensible items she picked up on her high street shopping spree just days before her big day, we thought it would be more fun to pick out some pieces from resort and spring 2011 that we wish she would wear. Keeping her conservative tastes and penchant for those damn L.K. Bennett wedges in mind, of course. (Yes, we photoshopped them onto these looks.)

Bruce Oldfield Says He’s Not Designing Kate Middleton’s Dress; So Who’s Left? A Last Look at the Designers Still In the Running

There has been so much speculation about the identity of the lucky designer(s) who has been commissioned to design Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress that it has been difficult to keep track! Every other day it seems a new name is floated while a new denial simultaneously grabs column inches. Today brings word that Bruce Oldfield, Read more →

The List of Royal Wedding Attendees is Out, We Pick Their Outfits For the Big Day

It’s come to the point that Royal Wedding Mania might be a diagnosable disease. While I’ve been trying to remain aloof, day by day it becomes increasingly more difficult to avoid. I was finally sucked in today after the guest list was released, meaning I spent all day picking out outfits for the ten most fashionable attendees (outside the wedding party).

Amongst the Golden Ticket holders (it does feel a little like Willy Wonka doesn’t it?) are the Beckhams, Elton John, Mario Testino, and Joss Stone, naturally.

Click through to see what we hope the Royal Wedding attendees wear, and be warned, our picks are a little (OK, a lot) non-traditional for Westminster Abbey (bare shoulders! gasp!).

Butter London Goes Royal: “No More Waity, Katie” Polish Available Now

Brits are really good at coming up with snarky nicknames. “Waity Katie” was the moniker bestowed on Kate Middleton by the British press because this royal proposal was eight years in the making.

While everything from condoms to dish towels have been made to commemorate the royal nuptials, none are as fun as a good nail polish. Butter London has just released a nail lacquer in Kate’s honor, called “No More Waity, Katie.” It’s a greige base sprinkled liberally with lilac glitter. While we’re not sure that Kate herself will be rocking this glittery confection, it’s a really fun and spring-y color, well-suited to a pedicure.

In addition to courting future royalty, Butter–whose nail lacquer formulas are all formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP free–has had quite a presence on catwalks lately, having done custom nails for the girls at Vena Cava, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, Yigal Azrouel, and Christian Cota.

Issa London Fall 2011: The Feather in Her Cap

Issa London Fall 2011: The Feather in Her Cap

LONDON–Where were all these people last season? Ticketholders packed sardine-style into the Issa London show in hopes of catching a glimpse of top client Kate Middleton. The future princess never appeared, but Daniella Issa Helayel capitalized on the royal boost to her brand with a rollicking, “Celebration”-themed show.

Figure-flattering silk jersey dresses are what Issa does best, and there were plenty of those. She showed skater skirts and drapey goddess gowns in Bordeaux, brick red, mortar and cobalt with matching Manolos and felt berets by Stephen Jones. Murmurs ran down the rows as Yasmin le Bon gave a saunter, the swish in her hips showcasing the clothes at their utmost.

J Mendel, Issa, On Aura Tout Vu and More Design Looks In Fur For the Kopenhagen Fur Show

J Mendel, Issa, On Aura Tout Vu and More Design Looks In Fur For the Kopenhagen Fur Show

COPENHAGEN–The Kopenhagen Studio show, one of the standouts of Copenhagen fashion week, saw Kopenhagen Fur, the largest pelt auction house in the world, handpick nine emerging and established international fashion talents to experiment and (hopefully) innovate with their controversial material.

First up was red carpet favorite J. Mendel, who drew on fur’s traditional evening wear status to produce a collection of prim and femme pieces that culminated in a floor length, tulle-skirted ballgown paired with a lustrous, outsized fur evening wrap.

Next off the mark was Mila Schön whose caramel suiting and black gathered-gossamer dresses lacked the ‘wow’ factor of J Mendel’s work, but showed some novel experimentation with texture. Shaved-back fur was treated into a honeycomb pattern, with large ridges left unshorn down arms and across hips, creating a dramatic, plume effect.

Tesco’s Knockoff of Kate Middleton’s Blue Issa Dress is Pretty Pathetic
Adventures in Copyright

Tesco’s Knockoff of Kate Middleton’s Blue Issa Dress is Pretty Pathetic

From Primark to Topshop, the Brits love their knockoffs. So it’s no surprise Tesco, one of the nation’s biggest discount stores, decided to replicate the pretty-but-let’s-face-it-boring Issa dress Kate Middleton wore to announce her engagement to Prince William. It retails for about $25.

The problem with the “Kate” dress, as Tesco has apty named it? Well, it’s not really a replica. In fact, we’d never think of it as a copy if Tesco wasn’t touting it as one.

Unsurprisingly, there’s another, better copy out there.

Who Will Design Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress? Meet the Designers On the Short List

Who Will Design Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress? Meet the Designers On the Short List

Now that Prince Wills has popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton (and we’ve seen the ring), the question on everyone’s mind is: what will she wear?

We came up with some fantastical suggestions for Kate–from Erdem to Marchesa to J. Crew–but Middleton will more than likely go with a British bridal designer who reflects her personal style which is clean, simple and safe. Which means, sadly, McQueen and Westwood are probably out of the running. Since news broke yesterday of the royal engagement, a few designer names have been singled out by the British press (including British Vogue and Hilary Alexander at the Telegraph) as front runners: Amanda Wakeley, Daniella “Issa” Helayel and Bruce Oldfield. Other names thrown into the mix are Stewart Parvin, who has a royal warrant, Jenny Packham, and Phillipa Lepley, whom Alexander describes as “Sloaney” (American translation: WASPy, preppy, girly, Upper East Side-y).

Hilariously, online betting site Paddy Power has even set up “Royal Wedding Dress Designer Betting,” creating odds on which designer has the best shot of getting the coveted job. According to the site, Amanda Wakeley and Daniella Halayel are the favorites to design Kate’s wedding dress at 9/2. They’ve also placed Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed Princess Diana’s dress with her former husband David, at 5/1 odds, and Vivienne Westwood at 6/1 odds so maybe there is hope for Dame Westwood.

A little bit more about the front runners and their designs.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Engaged! So What Should She Wear?

Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Engaged! So What Should She Wear?

Prince William and Kate Middleton are finally engaged after eight years of dating. Wills proposed a month ago while the couple were on vacation in Kenya, and today, Clarence House officially announced their engagement. Prince William and Kate are set to wed this coming spring or summer, and the world should get a peek of the engagement ring tonight when the 28-year-old couple give their first public interview. But we’re more interested in the dress, of course, and as there’s no word yet on what Kate will wear down the aisle at Westminster Abbey (or whatever royal venue is chosen), we’ve gathered our top picks.

Middleton clearly has an interest in fashion–she’s worked as an accessories buyer for Brit chain Jigsaw and she was offered a job in PR with Tom Ford–but her style tends towards clean and simple. Will she go with Bruce Oldfield who designs for the Royals, or a younger Brit bridal line like Temperley? Will she stick with her go-to fave, Issa, or go edgier?

Here’s what we’re hoping for. What would you like to see Kate wear?
