We’ve always thought of the 1940s as being a rather destitute time in American history thanks to the second World War, but not in Jenny Packham’s dreamy world—she prefers to remember that era as the heyday of the vampy femme fatale, which is why it makes perfect sense that Forties-fanatic Dita Von Teese was front and center at yesterday’s catwalk show (dressed in a chic fall 2012 Packham cocktail dress to boot).
And after previewing her fall 2012 offering (you can watch it too, here), it’s no wonder that today’s screen sirens (like Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Beckinsale) and fashion’s favorite royal (the Duchess of Cambridge) often call on Packham to dress them in her stunning creations for their official red carpet appearances.
Alexander Wang is Expanding Eastward: Alex Wang is breaking the typical fashion business expansion mould (West followed by Eastern markets) with plans to open fourteen locations in Asia in the next year. The designer, who has no plans yet to open any more US stores (he currently has only one in NYC) says he has seen “the progression” of fashion in China years after his mom tried to (lovingly) pressure him into moving there. South Park Strips Down for Marc Jacobs: Following in the nudie footsteps of Victoria Beckham and Naomi Campbell, the cast of South Park have stripped down for some Marc Jacobs tees benefitting The Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group at NYU. Thankfully, Muscle Man Marc’s former co-stars have some strategically placed lettering preserving their modesty on the $35 tees – which are really, really funny. {WWD}
There were some really memorable dresses on the red carpet at the SAG Awards last night, and we finally saw some risk-taking. Rose Byrne was amazing in her Elie Saab jumpsuit and Anna Wintour hair. And Emily Blunt made bright, almost neon green, look fresh and classy. Zoe Saldana arguably looked better than the model in her less-than-a-week-old Givenchy couture gown (and good choice to skip the nose ring). And it seems like Angelina Jolie is incapable of making bad red carpet choices. Our only question: Where was Rooney Mara last night? Does she not have a SAG card yet?

I had never been to a Jenny Packham show, but thanks to a certain newly minted princess (ahem, Ms. Middleton), everyone now knows the designer’s name. And Packham deserves the recognition.
The impossibly flowy chiffons and beaded lace hotpants (our fave, hands down) had to appeal to the various starlets present, including Mandy Moore, who was actually gawking at points during the show. Not to mention that every single item was covered in sequins.
The royal couple’s whirlwind weekend in California continued yesterday as Kate and William hit up a charity polo match (where tickets went for $4,000 and Giada De Laurentiis cooked the lunch.) She wore new fave designer Jenny Packham AGAIN–quite a lovely pale lilac dress with a floral print. Two elements of her outfit that sort of shocked us? We thought for sure she’d be sporting a hat for polo, but she let her wavy hair take center stage. And look at her feet: sandals! Yes, they’re nude, but they have a criss-cross strap and a respectable heel height. We’re calling this progress.
