The Biggest Designer Comebacks

It’s been a season of second, third, and even fourth chances. After stints at Perry Ellis, Paco Rabanne, and Gap, designer Patrick Robinson is once again staging a comeback–this time, as creative director of Armani Exchange.

Currently waiting in the wings is former Dior designer John Galliano, who has been assisting in Oscar de la Renta’s atelier and is purportedly in talks to teach at Parsons.

Jil Sander Fall 2013: Simple Luxury

Jil Sander, who returned to her eponymous label only a season ago, has certainly gotten back into the swing of things. For fall 2013, she showed a beautifully-made, cohesive collection, that didn’t even go near the kind of frills, bells and whistles other designers might employ. It was the kind of collection one might expect from the so-called queen of minimalism.

But minimalism doesn’t mean boring–there were certainly thrills without the frills in this collection.

Back in February when Raf Simons was abruptly let go at Jil Sander after seasons of critically-acclaimed collections, fashion insiders were all asking the same question: Why? Was Simons starting his own line? Was he going to Dior? Was it politics? Personal differences?

From Raf Simons’s abrupt departure from Jil Sander to his surprise appointment at Dior–and his subsequent critically-acclaimed debut there–Simons has been a hot topic in the industry lately. But we haven’t heard much from the designer himself about his recent career changes and what went on behind-the-scenes at Jil Sander and Dior.

However, in Vogue Australia‘s December issue (posted on The Fashion Spot), Simons opened up to Lisa Armstrong about his landmark year–from being in talks with Bernard Arnault for “months” to finding John Galliano’s designs not “relevant.” Read on.
