New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Beauty Roundup: 10 Runway Looks You Should Not Try At Home

Most of the beauty looks this season were minimal, natural, and quite pretty and wearable (well, except the wet mullets). But those aren’t fun to look at, are they? No, we don’t think so either.

So please click through to see the 10 looks that we never hope to see on someone in the subway at three in the afternoon but that we loved seeing on the runways.

Jill Stuart Spring 2012: Candy Colors for Girly Girls

Jill Stuart’s not the go-to for New York’s distinctively sinister look, but if it’s layer cake clothing you’re looking for—you’ve found your match. Continuing with her ‘I’m big in Japan’ cutesy signatures (I’ve been informed by a friend in Tokyo that she’s actually THE rage there), Stuart presented a collection of macaron-colored dresses—chalky pinks, mint greens, and sunshine yellows, accessorized with disheveled doll hair and an irreverence towards downtown’s grim poster girls. Jill Stuart’s Clothes Stand Up to Attention-Hoarding Celebs

Season after season, Jill Stuart peppers her front row with press-garnering celebs. While it’s usually a smart move, at Saturday’s show, Stuart’s grocery list of reality stars vied for attention not just with each other, but also with her clothes.

Not so discreet hand-holding (Kourtney Kardashian & Scott Disick) and even less discreet in-seat dancing (Brad Goreski–but hey, the man’s got moves) piqued photographer’s interest even after the lights went down, turning some cameras away from Stuart’s clothes and instead towards the people who court them.

But unlike the celebs, the clothes showed restraint, and at times even austerity. (High-waisted, knee-skimming shorts come to mind, as does a clean navy cape that seemed more Jil Sander than Jill Stuart).
