Breaking: Here are the 10 Finalists for the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund

The winner will receive a cash prize and mentorship from an industry veteran. Joseph Altuzarra took home the top prize ($300,000) for 2011, while runners up Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind got $100,000 each. All three of them got to design a capsule collection for J. Crew. And, it was all documented on a Hulu show.

Now, the following designers will embark on a series of challenges over the next few months, including presenting to a panel of judges, creating a one-of-a-kind piece for Tiffany & Co., and staging a runway show in Los Angeles at the Chateau Marmont. The winner and runners up will be announced at a gala dinner November 13. So, without further ado, the finalists are…

Best of Resort 2013: Part Two

Even more great resort collections have trickled in since our first roundup. From Jonathan Saunders to Rag & Bone to Celine, that 70s psychedelia trend is still there. But there are also some subdued, laid back, classic pieces that are more feasible for day-to-day life in the resort months (for those of us who don’t Read more →

Diane von Furstenburg Will Continue to Kick Ass as the President of the CFDA for the Next Two Years

Diane von Furstenberg is one popular lady when it comes to the CFDA: The organization announced today that the designer will continue her reign as their president until at least 2014, WWD is reporting, making this her fourth term as president since her election in 2006 (the elections are held every two years) and the second time the board has extended her tenure. In other words, DVF is doing a kickass job and they want her to keep chugging along.

“Diane has done an excellent job as CFDA president,” Steven Kolb, CFDA chief creative officer, told the trade. “The time and resources she gives and the vision she has created is a huge benefit for our organization and industry.”

And the CFDA Award Winners Are…

And the CFDA Award Winners Are…

The fashion Oscars CFDA awards have wrapped: The Olsens took home the big prize for womenswear for the Row (they very adorably thanked each other); Seth Meyers wore Marc Jacobs’ Met ball outfit (and dared to make a Galliano joke); Garance Dore had folks tearing up when she accepted her award by telling the audience to “take your fun very seriously…[and] maybe one day you will start a revolution”; and John Waters proved the perfect person to pick up awards for both Comme des Garçons‘ Rei Kawakubo (“I wear Comme des Garcons to be fashionable in private…We know how great her clothes look but others just think we’re poor”) and Johnny Depp (“He has fashion balls…he was a pirate Pepe Le Pew way before I met him”). And the industry recognized its finest talents this year.

Without further ado, the 2012 CFDA award winners:

Fashion News Roundup: Final Fashion Week Dates Announced, a Brunette Crystal Renn Covers Vogue Mexico, and Natalia Vodianova Says Skinny is Better Than Fat

Catwalk Catfight is Over: After plenty of drama, the CFDA and the BFC have confirmed fashion week dates for the next three years that have left all parties happy(ish). Through September of 2014, NYFW will start the first Thursday of September instead of the second, allowing all other fashion weeks free from conflict of dates. {WWD, sub. req.}

Crystal Renn Covers Vogue Mexico: Proving she looks hot in any hair color, Renn covers the May issue of Vogue Mexico pre-bleaching. We’re big fans of the Ferragamo spring 2012 dress they shot, which feels so perfectly summery. {TFS}

Runaway Royals: Prince Harry attended this year’s London Marathon, where he told the BBC that he had been trying to get a place “for years.” And if it’s up to Harry, he won’t be doing it alone: “What’s fantastic is that my brother and his wife will be doing it next year, I think… He’s going to have to now, isn’t he?” Clarence House denies that Wills and Kate have plans to run – for now, anyway.{Vogue UK}

Fashionista Week in Review: Coachella Trends that Should Die, the Best YouTube Beauty Tutorials, and Angelina Jolie (and Her Right Leg) Are Getting Married!

Coachella Happened: Coachella kicked off last weekend (and wraps this weekend), and we promise to stop talking about it soon. From what the celebs wore, to what real people wore, to the trends we hope will fade faster than your tan we covered it all. It’s all in good fun – you know we love you! (But seriously, no more crochet.)

YouTube Makeup Gurus: We’ve all been there: we’ve spotted that perfect cat eye or been desperate to cover up that zit and wondered, “How can I do this?” Luckily, we live in the age of YouTube, where beauty gurus share their knowledge with just a click of a button. Here are 10 of the best tutorials.

Best Tressed Style Bloggers: Though these seven ladies are known better for their clothes than their locks, we think it’s all part of the same stylish parcel. We had to know how these bloggers style their enviable hair.

Finally, NYC’s Answer to Colette: Fashion fans dream of boutiques like Colette in Paris and Corso Como in Milan, so obviously we’re thrilled about FiveStory, NYC’s latest boutique that seeks to fill that niche. The best part? The brain behind the luxury boutique is 26-year old Claire Distenfeld–check out our interview with her.

Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind for J. Crew, The Complete Collections

We’ve already seen and swooned over Joseph Altuzarra’s gingham-filled, Brigitte Bardot-inspired collection for J. Crew, in stores now, but the retailer’s other two CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collaborations have remained a bit of a mystery (Vogue gave us a little tease), until now.
