Haider Ackermann’s Clothes Are Apparently Too Complicated for ‘Hapless’ Vogue Editors to Style

Anyone who thinks a fashion shoot is as easy as trying on clothes and taking pictures has obviously never styled someone in Haider Ackermann. Just ask Tonne Goodman–who, according to The Independent, had more than a little trouble outfitting Lady Gaga for her March 2011 Vogue cover. Apparently, the draping of Gaga’s Romanesque kimono Ackermann ensemble was so complex, Goodman (or as The Independent refers to her, “the hapless fashion editor”) “called the designer to ask for his personal help dressing her.”

The Top 20 Designer Collaborations: A Timeline

The Top 20 Designer Collaborations: A Timeline

When H&M announced its latest designer collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela, we’ll admit we were a little surprised. Margiela is so avant-garde, so cult-y, and with little name recognition (OK, more than a little thanks to Kanye) we’d have figured them the last brand to do a collaboration with a mass retailer. But then again, H&M got Karl Lagerfeld to do a line for it in 2004, and then, somehow, the retailer convinced the most reclusive and enigmatic of designers, Rei Kawakubo, to do a Comme des Garcons collaboration in 2008. So maybe it’s not so surprising that Maison Martin Margiela is doing a mass collab–maybe it’s even obvious. It seems like every major designer has done a lower-priced collaboration with any number of mass retailers recently.

The CFDA Turns 50! Take a Look at the 50 Best Fashion Moments from the CFDA Awards

This year the CFDA turns 50. Doesn’t it look good for it’s age? And apparently it hasn’t even had any work done!

But in all seriousness, since it’s inception, the CFDA has helped countless of emerging talents, helped to foster important industry developments (like the Model Health Initiative), and honored many designers–both young and old. And tonight’s CFDA Awards will, of course, be continuing that tradition.

So, in honor of the CFDA’s 50th birthday, we look back at the 50 most stylish moments from the Awards.

Karl Lagerfeld on Kate Middleton’s Butt, the Queen’s Outfit and the Rest of His Commentary on the Diamond Jubilee

Karl Lagerfeld on Kate Middleton’s Butt, the Queen’s Outfit and the Rest of His Commentary on the Diamond Jubilee

For the Queen’s jubilee this weekend, Karl Lagerfeld not only gave live on-screen commentary for French TV channel France 2, he was also tweeting up a storm.

And Karl being Karl, he had a lot to say–from Kate Middleton’s butt (“lovely”) to the Queen’s outfit (he was not a fan of the shawl) to the weather, which reminded him of Arthur Marquet’s paintings.

Lagerfeld also revealed that he begged his parents for his first tv so he could watch Queen II’s coronation. Now it’s come full circle. Who knew he was such a royal fanatic!

Click through to read all his tweets (translated by yours truly) along with pictures from the epic event.

Last Night’s Party: Karl Lagerfeld Pops Up in the West Village With Hilary Rhoda and Leigh Lezark

Last night, Karl Lagerfeld extended his empire even further with a launch party for his new range of T-shirts in collaboration with artist collective I Love Dust, which was held, appropriately, in a Karl pop-up shop in the West Village. And though Lagerfeld wasn’t physically there, there was plenty of his likeness to go around

There were Lagerfeld dolls, teddy bears, shoes, jackets, and special-edition Diet Coke, sprinkled alongside the new shirts, which are emblazoned with his most memorable quotes and images of his signature style pieces.

The scene was a remarkable testament to the power of the Kaiser’s ever expanding personal brand.

Beth Ditto Says Karl Lagerfeld ‘Is Not Even Sane’

Beth Ditto may be one of the few people in the world who isn’t afraid to say she thinks Karl Lagerfeld is, er, insane. A few weeks ago the outspoken singer came out in defense of Adele, whom Karl Lagerfeld had called “a little too fat.” He apologized, but Ditto still went after the designer, saying that people “give him way too much power.” And she’s not done telling people how she feels about the whole situation.
