The Met Ball is like the Oscars for the fashion industry: all the best people in all the best dresses.
This year’s theme, punk, presents an interesting conundrum: will people go all out, liberty spikes and Givenchy nose rings and all, or just throw some studs on a Chanel suit and call it pseudo-punk?
We’re hoping for the former, and so in the spirit of going the distance, we’ve picked out our favorite punk fashions and paired them with Met Ball regulars like Anna Wintour and Julianne Moore and some fantasy guests (Bjork, anyone?).

Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have spent the last 10 years becoming the fashion industry’s purveyors of cool, whether through their runaway-hit retail venture Opening Ceremony or their work as creative directors of Kenzo. But if you ask Leon and Lim, their success was just one happy circumstance after another, really.

The hit-makers behind Opening Ceremony and, since fall 2012, Parisian house Kenzo, always find a way to incorporate food into their presentations. (For their very first Kenzo womenswear show they flew Magnolia bakers from New York to Paris to make sure every guest had a cupcake on his/her seat.) So when Pitti Uomo came calling to ask Kenzo to be the featured menswear designer at the prestigious trade show, Lim and Leon went with their guts.
