As if the amfAR Gala’s red carpet wasn’t enough to push you into fashion sensory overload, we now have the night’s main event–the all-gold fashion show curated by Carine Roitfeld–to drool over.
The Met Ball is like the Oscars for the fashion industry: all the best people in all the best dresses.
This year’s theme, punk, presents an interesting conundrum: will people go all out, liberty spikes and Givenchy nose rings and all, or just throw some studs on a Chanel suit and call it pseudo-punk?
We’re hoping for the former, and so in the spirit of going the distance, we’ve picked out our favorite punk fashions and paired them with Met Ball regulars like Anna Wintour and Julianne Moore and some fantasy guests (Bjork, anyone?).

Last night’s red carpet at the New York premiere for The Great Gastby brought some industry heavy-hitters like Anna Wintour and Jenna Lyons, as well as the megawatt stars of the film like Carey Mulligan and Leonardo DiCaprio. Of course, they all brought their sartorial A-game. And Martha Stewart brought her gold sequin capris.
As spring began to bloom, this week’s best dressed ladies (and one gentleman) showed a little skin while keeping things tasteful. Jennifer Lawrence showed of a new ‘do and her shoulders in David Koma; Elle Fanning went high-drama in Lanvin; and Kiernan Shipka looked adorable yet grown up in Dolce. Last night, 100 of the world’s most influential people–well, according to TIME, anyway–were celebrated at the magazine’s annual 100 Gala in New York.
As one might expect from such accomplished influencers, the red carpet offered up plenty of notable outfits– from Mia Farrow‘s sweet Boston tribute to Lena Dunham‘s divisive Saint Laurent outfit.
