Grading the Spring Ads, Part 2

Since our last recap of the spring ads, tons of new images have been released, including Miu Miu‘s full campaign starring none other than Querelle Jansen!

For fashion nerds like myself, Querelle’s image brought back memories of Marc Jacobs’ fall ’05 collection inspired by Violet from the Incredibles and his spring ’05 collection for Vuitton that he said she inspired with her street style. Call me nostalgic, but I hope Querelle makes a major comeback in the 2010s.

But enough reminiscing. In this recap of the ads we’ve got Prada, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Céline, Rag & Bone, Jil Sander and so much more. So get clicking!

Fashion News Roundup: Gisele Covers Vogue China, Gaga Bares Her Bum (Yes, Again), and the French L’Oreal Ad Starring Every Celebrity Ever

Gisele Covers Vogue China: Patrick Demarchelier shot Gisele for the cover of February’s Vogue China. Rodarte-ish runway hair + Prada = ah-mazing/beyond/major/whatever fashion word is about to get overused in 2011. {The Fashion Spot}

Lady Gaga Is Pant-less Again, Possibly For Her New Album Cover: SHOWstudio’s Nick Knight released an image of Gaga on New Year’s that everyone only noticed today. She’s naked from the waist down, natch, and wearing a denim jacket with a unicorn on it (something The Cut is very exciting about). Supposedly this is part of Gaga’s new album art. {SHOWstudio via The Cut}

The Celeb-y-ist Foreign Commercial Ever: Know how super A-list celebs sometimes do foreign commercials for lots of cash? Well almost all of them decided to cash in for this French L’oreal Ad. It stars: Beyoncé, Gerard Butler, Jessica Alba, Freida Pinto, Claudia Schiffer, Rachel Weisz, Diane Kruger, Patrick Dempsey, and Jane Fonda. {YouTube via Jezebel}

Victoria Beckham Sometimes Thinks Her Husband Looks Like Crap: Victoria Beckham looks lovely on the cover of February’s British Vogue. She also has some lovely words about her husband, “”The other morning I looked across at David just after he’d woken up and thought you look really crap. THANK GOD, because this is a man who always looked so perfect.” {Vogue UK}

Fashion News Roundup: ALT on What The First Lesbian President Should Wear, More News on Kate’s Wedding Dress and Was Carine Canned?

Carine Canned? Racked is reporting that Carine Roitfeld was fired from French Vogue, citing the EIC as the reason for the mag being blacklisted at Balenciaga and Bernard Arnault threatening to pull all LVMH ads from the next issue. “Basically, she was fired,” a source tells Racked. Quel scandale! Not sure if we buy it though. {Racked}

Royal Dress Update: HuffPo’s royal’s correspondent is reporting that while the odds have Bruce Oldfield to design Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, she’ll likely wear a lesser known British designer who has dressed all the Middleton women (sister Pippa and mother Carole included) over the years. {Huffington Post}

When We Have a Lesbian President, ALT Knows How She Should Dress: In her Sunday Times column, Maureen Down mused about whether we are ready for a gay commander in chief following the landmark vote to repeal “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” She consulted André Leon Talley who told her that he imagines a lesbian president “who looks like Julie Andrews and dresses to meet heads of state in ‘ankle-length skirts, grazing the Manolo Blahnik kitten heels.’ She would save her ‘butch trouser suit for weekends at Camp David and vacation hikes in Yellowstone. No plaid lumberjack shirts at any time.’” {NYT}

Gift Guide: The Best Gifts for the Style and Tech-Savvy

As Oprah and her audience can attest, iPads make great gifts. So do laptops, e-readers, smart phones and other fun technology. But perhaps even more fun (not to mention less expensive) are the accessories out there to go along with these gadgets. Honestly, I’m not sure which I’d be more excited to unwrap–an actual iPad or a snake-embossed Rebecca Minkoff case for it. (Ok, probs an iPad.)

As more and more designers are smartly expanding into this market, there are now a plethora of fashionable ways to pretty-up your new toys, the sleekest of which still tend to look drab and impersonal. There are Mulberry patent leather laptop cases, Marc by Marc headphones, Tory Burch Kindle sleeves and so much more. Click through for the best tech gifts.

13 of Our Favorite Chunky, Printed Cardi-Coats

Sweater weather is here people, and as far as we’re concerned, it’s one of the best things about the temperature dropping. And since we’re puffer-coat averse here at Fashionista, this cardi-coat trend is right up our alley. They’re super cozy and thick enough to double as coats (before temps drop below freezing). The best versions are printed–Navajo, fair isle, and intarsia–perfect for adding a little interest over jeans and flat knee-boots. We’re making it our new weekend staple.

Take a look through some of our favorites.

An Ode To Karlie Kloss’s Walk Of Fame
Fashion Is Fun

An Ode To Karlie Kloss’s Walk Of Fame

Eighteen year-old model Karlie Kloss has walked everything from Miu Miu to Versace. Most well known models have. But, if anything sets her apart from other models, it’s her famed walk. The walk, which is usually accompanied by her “death stare”, seems to be set to a beat that no one else can hear. As an ode to Karlie and her strut, we’ve assembled her best mid-walk shots from this season.

Tying Up Loose Threads from NYFW: Marc by Marc, Phillip Lim and Anna Sui Do What They Do, But They Do It So Well

You sort of know what to expect from Marc by Marc (cheerful, fun, girly), Phillip Lim (sleek, tailored, the clothes I want to wear), and Anna Sui (’70s inspired, kooky, playful), but that is not to say that these designers don’t put out great collections season after season. There’s something comforting, too, in knowing that when you go to see any of these designers, you know you’re in for a good show. And Spring/Summer 2011 was no exception. We’ve also included our final menswear review of George McCracken’s show in this, our final review roundup from New York Fashion Week.
