Our Favorite Marni Looks We Hope End Up at H&M

Our Favorite Marni Looks We Hope End Up at H&M

We should still be exhausted from the widespread chaos caused by Versace for H&M (there’s still lots of it on eBay, if you were wondering), but that hasn’t curbed our genuine excitement for Marni’s signature quirkiness to make its way into H&M stores (and our closets) next March. Consuelo Castiglioni said in a statement, “I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints.” This of course got us thinking about our own favorite Marni moments–from printed dresses to arty necklaces to chunky sandals with socks.

We’re still reeling from Versace for H&M mania–the collection launched barely two weeks ago–but H&M has just revealed their next designer collaboration. They’re sticking with the Italians for this next collab, and if you found Versace for H&M’s loud prints and studs a touch too much, this collection will deliver prints and color combinations that Read more →

Marni Spring 2012: Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon

Marni Spring 2012: Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon

MILAN–In a game of 60s purity, ladylike touches, and 70s prints, the Marni collection read like a tale of a girl growing into womanhood.

The well-behaved, clean cut collection kicked off with a series of reinterpreted baby doll dresses–knee-length, soft-toned, paired down–yet with subtle flap details at the front and a cinched waist, complete with stockings and a slip poking out.

This was followed by sleeveless tops with a flare at the hips paired with a straight skirt. The patterns became more complex throughout the show: 70s geometrical prints, floral motifs in a pink palette and (perhaps the tour de force of the collection) a lurex embroided rose-hued dress, that looked neither tacky nor girly.

Check Out These Dresses Made From Nursing Home Supplies (Think Adult Diapers and Syringes)

The University of Chicago alumni magazine is an unlikely source of inspiration for us, but this month they’ve outdone themselves by featuring a project by Amy Zucker (MFA ’98). Amy is a Registered Nurse and case manager who works with the elderly in nursing homes. She fabricated a series of dresses out of medical supplies which are meant to be a statement about the elderly and their “tenuous” access to medical care. We’re just happy that Amy found a way to funnel her creativity. (See, Amy’s mom! That fine arts degree is totally paying off.) She didn’t use any toilet seat covers, luckily, otherwise we’d have to do an Adventures in Copyright.

Click through to see her creations and how they compare to what some fashion designers are doing these days.

Fashion News Roundup: Marni Launches Kids, the Kate Middleton Jelly Bean, and Khloe Kardashian’s Kloset Is On Display

Marni For Girls: Marni is launching a kids collection for girls aged 2-12 based off the label’s retro Marni Edition collections. “It contains essential key items of the Marni world, such as exclusive Marni prints, for example hearts, florals, polka-dots, contrasting stripes and our signature doll print,” designer Consuelo Castiglioni said. Being the chic-est girl on the playground doesn’t come cheap, however. Price points range between $60 and $650. {Vogue UK}

Mary HK Choi Makes Refinery’s “I Love My…” Feature Insanely Hilarious: Mary HK Choi (my personal journo crush) wrote the funniest ode to the cheapo $9 skirts she loves for Refinery’s “I Love My…” feature. A sampling: “They’re probs produced by dim-eyed, nimble-fingered toddlers who feed the unending python of flammable black elasticky shit into a mechanized guillotine that simultaneously cuts and seam finishes the tubes with the crummiest serged edge. But they’re so easy…They’re conflict body-con skirts. I love them, but they make me feel awful.” {Refinery29}

Behold the Kate Middleton Jelly Bean: You know how people see Jesus in weird things like, say, grilled cheese on an episode of Glee? Someone found a jelly bean that looks like Kate Middleton and they’re looking to make around $800 off of it on eBay. {The Windsor Knot}

Marni and Yoox Make Us Want to Go to Salone del Mobile

Marni and Yoox Make Us Want to Go to Salone del Mobile

There’s nothing better than a well-made chair. That is, except for a well-made shoe.

For those of us almost as obsessed with furniture as we are with fashion, Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile furniture fair, which begins April 17, is one trade show that we’re sad we’re missing.

Of course, the city’s fashion labels love to participate in the week-long event, and this year they’ve really pulled out all the stops.
