Milly Fall 2013: Hologram

God bless the stylist, the unsung hero during fashion week who mixes and matches pieces together to create not only a cohesive collection, but strong individual looks. When done poorly, it’s quite obvious. But on the contrary, when it’s good, it’s magical. Such was the case with Michelle Smith’s fall 2013 Milly collection, Illumination, which Read more →

Milly Spring 2013

The Clothes: This season the Milly girl is super sporty without compromising on glamor. Milly Fall 2012: Present Perfect

Milly Fall 2012: Present Perfect

I took my seat at Milly praying I wouldn’t be subjected to another fall collection with a dark, moody color palette. I scanned my show notes, looking for words like “flame” or “fuchsia,” but was soon distracted by a charming older gentleman sitting beside me, who happened to be Fahsionista contributor Fawnia’s dad. We looked on as photographers snapped shots of front rowers Kristin Chenoweth, Tinsley Mortimer, and Gail Simmons. Fawnia’s dad was understandably confused. “Are these people supposed to be celebrities?” he asked. “Who are they?” I think we all have those moments during Fashion Week.

But back to the show. Designer Michelle Smith rethinks winter dressing in this aptly titled “Future Perfect” collection. And no dark muted color palette here: Smith used vibrant colors we usually see during the spring shows, giving us a wardrobe sure to uplift spirits during the colder months.

Cute Overload: Milly Designer Michelle Smith Interviews Her Five-Year-Old Daughter Sophia Before They Take the Runway Together

One of our favorite parts of Milly designer Michelle Smith’s shows, besides the clothes of course, is when her adorable five-year-old daughter, Sophia Oshrin, joins her on the runway for the finale. It happened last season and melted our jaded fashion hearts. This past year, Sophia became an even bigger presence in her mom’s fashion biz as she’s the fit model for Milly’s year-old insanely cute children’s line.

In anticipation of Sophia’s scene stealing runway appearance at today’s Milly show, we asked Smith to interview her daughter about helping her mom prep for the show, her runway walk, and her design skills. Brace yourself, it’s the cutest thing ever.

First Look: Milly X Sperry Top-Sider Spring 2012 (Plus a Peek at Milly’s Adorable Kids’ Line)

Milly’s cheery spring 2012 collection was full of geometric prints and bold colors in smart, feminine silhouettes and their collaboration with Sperry Top-Sider–new for spring 2012–fits right in with that aesthetic. Michelle Smith said of the collaboration, “I’ve always adored preppy, nautical style, and was thrilled to put the Milly spin on an icon of American fashion. Working with a design team immersed in over 75 years of tradition has been very rewarding.”

While the platforms debuted on the runway last month, we got a peek at the full capsule collection at the designers’ press preview last week. They’re Sperrys like you’ve never seen them before. There is, of course, the classic boat shoe–but in vibrant colors and prints–as well as wedges, sandals and laceless canvas sneakers. There’s even a little “M” charm on each shoe, which I though was a very charming affect.

They’re even offering girls styles–speaking of which, Milly’s children’s line has expanded since last year’s launch and spring 2012 includes some of the cutest kids clothes I’ve ever seen
