It’s surprising that Monique Lhuillier is just now getting into the shoe game. After all, the Los Angeles-based designer’s intricate wedding gowns and elegant evening wear generally requires one to wear a fancy heel. So it’s exciting that Lhuillier’s first-ever footwear collection, which features plenty of girly-but-still sleeks pumps priced from $595 to $1,195—hits Saks Fifth Avenue’s New York store today. We chatted with Lhuillier about her new venture.

After 16 years in the biz, Monique Lhuillier opened her first New York flagship on 71st and Madison last night. The designer referred to the boutique as a ‘jewel box’ to highlight her designs, and the gorgeous Waterford chandeliers and grey suede walls certainly did just that. Housed in a 19th century townhouse, the 3000 square foot, two story space actually feels quite intimate thanks to small rooms and nooks throughout.

We caught a quiet moment with Lhuillier, who juggles being a mother and wife with her super successful bridal and mainline collections. And she looks utterly glamorous while she does it.
