Watch: P’Trique (of ‘Sh*t Fashion Girls Say’ Fame) Talks Paris Fashion, Skypes with Nicola Formichetti

There have been many versions of the “Shit *insert niche groups here* Say” videos, but for obvious reasons our favorites are P’Trique’s “Shit Fashion Girls Say” because they’re hilarious and sometimes uncomfortably true-to-life. Plus, he has a beard, flat ironed hair, and wears lipstick. It just all works. Well, there’s a new one, and this Read more →

Mugler Men’s Fall 2012: Back to the Future

Mugler Men’s Fall 2012: Back to the Future

PARIS–There is simply no doubt that Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti is very much a man of the now and thus, the future. Since his appointment to Mugler back in September 2010 to work with in-house designers Romain Kremer and Sébastien Peigné for the men’s and women’s collections respectively, Mr. Formichetti has brought the real-time technology of social media to the service of fashion. He calls it ‘Fashion Without Borders.’ With Formichetti at the helm there is hype before the collection showings like a Gaga pre-release soundtrack, or a fashionable porn released on XTube.

Tonight’s show in a loft with a simple black sparking panel as a backdrop near the Gare de L’Est was low key compared to recent Mugler outings. In lieu of new music or video teases, he opted for a net broadcast of the preparation and mood boards of the men’s fall collection. That meant a virtual design atelier studio accessible for those obsessed with behind-the-scenes action. “Fashion seemed a bit ‘warmer’ in the past, more personal and not so removed,” Mr. Formichetti explained.

Mangled, Mashed and Mutilated: The Fate of Models’ Feet on the Runway

Mangled, Mashed and Mutilated: The Fate of Models’ Feet on the Runway

Fashion month is a mad whirlwind of collections where we see Anna Wintour literally leap from her seat to continue onto the next show. The jam-packed schedules are cause for a lot of stress for all involved: organizers, editors, buyers, the designers–but especially the models. For models, physical signifiers of work and stress are easily covered on the face with plenty of time in the makeup chair backstage, but there’s one (actually two) key appendages that are sadly over-looked. No, not those. The model’s feet, of course.

With a month of running around four cities, endless nights of fittings, countless show rehearsals and finally–the actual shows–a model’s foot takes one heck of a beating. We’ve already covered the wonderful shoe highlights from this season, but now we will take a look inside the shoe. Warning: If you have foot issues (ie they are too creepy for you to even handle), this slideshow is not for you.

That Was Fast: Models, Editors, Socialites Already Wearing Spring 2012 Looks

Most people are content to go to Fashion Week and merely see the clothes. Not so these fashion A-listers. From Anna Dello Russo’s crazy swan hat to Anna Wintour’s pretty Prada skirt, this week saw models, editors and a socialite or two wearing Spring 2012 looks that had walked the runway mere days (or hours) beforehand.

It’s true critical reviews can make or break a collection–but so can one well-placed garment on an It Girl or fashion industry superstar. So it’s worth noting that Anna Wintour wore a Prada skirt (and that the Spring 2012 collection will no doubt be popping up sometime soon in Vogue)–or that despite getting generally slammed by critics, Dw by Kanye West seems to already have a few big-name fashion fans. Another name to jot down: Anthony Vaccarello, whose designs were favored by many an It girl and model. Vaccarello also won the ANDAM Fashion Award in July–but these recent endorsements have no doubt solidified him as a rising star in the industry.

Check out our favorite straight-off-the-runway looks as seen on many fashion notables. While the ladies certainly all look good, we shudder to think what this means for the already crazy pace of fashion design and production.

Mugler Spring 2012: Don’t F*** With a Mugler Woman
Reviews

Mugler Spring 2012: Don’t F*** With a Mugler Woman

PARIS–You don’t fuck with a Mugler woman. At least that’s what Lady Gaga said over and over in the video that opened last night’s Mugler show at the Gymnase Japy. Gaga’s hair was greenish and in pig tails, and she sported gappy buckteeth. She stared at the camera with a blank expression and swirled her pig tails around. The effect, as always with any collaboration between Gaga and Mugler’s creative director Nicola Formichetti, was provocative and weird. (Also maybe Mugler is making grills now? It looked like Gaga was wearing one-and that would be awesome.)

Sure enough, as the film ended and the models took to the hazy smoke-hung runway it was clear these women were not to be fucked with.

Fashion News Roundup: Lady Gaga Sued Her Own Fan, Angela Missoni Didn’t Graduate High School And Hello Kitty for Forever 21

June Ambrose is Getting a VH1 Show: The stylist to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys will get her own show in early 2012, but don’t expect a Rachel Zoe copy; she’ll dress her big clients but also give style and brand advice to emerging talents. {Stylelist}

Your Exclusive Prada Bag Is Actually Made in India: Prada used to source their materials from India and ship them to Italy, but now they’re cutting out the shipping costs by making them at the source and then charging more for the cheaper-made piece. They’re reasoning? The “Made In India” label is exclusive. {Racked}

Lady Gaga Sued Her Own Fan Site: Gaga’s team sued the operators of LadyGaga.org (est: 2008) claiming they “intentionally registered the domain name to capitalize on Lady Gaga’s fame.” But the site doesn’t actually make any money, only gives love to their Queen, so the courts ruled against it. Odd for someone who claims to love her fans so much, don’t you think? {Styleite}

Nicola Formichetti Declares that He Loves Working With Fat People

Lady Gaga stylist/Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti is pissed off. He says that comments he made in the latest issue of W were misconstrued.

“i know i should just leave it but…i really hate when writers just write whatever they want… ‘i dont work with fat people…’ why would someone say such a thing?!” Formichetti declared tonight on his Facebook, under a gorgeous picture he styled for V‘s size issue.
