Four cities, one season: Fall 2013. Nemo kicked the collections off and every city to follow added its own dose of wintry chill. Somehow all that cold weather caused a discernible note of restraint to float through the collections. Don’t worry–the passion and excitement were still there, but designers actively pursued defining new ways we can really dress next fall. These looks felt grounded in the return of the “Lady,” as fashion’s pendulum swung away from the risqué, toward the refreshingly refined (spike-studded shoulders be damned). After showing a critically-acclaimed Spring 2013 collection in September (which Style.com called the “most successful lineup of his career”), and debuting his first ever fast fashion collaboration with Kohl’s in November, it was already clear Rodriguez was having a bit of a moment. While in Seattle (where I’m from) recently, I made my obligatory trip to the Nordstrom flagship, looking for nothing in particular but knowing that the super nice and convincing sales people would end up tricking me into spending too much money. And I was right!

Though Nordstrom does have a remarkably easygoing return policy, I did not suffer one ounce of buyer’s remorse.
