Beauty Trendspotting: Eww, Pink Eye

This season at NYFW has been really effing weird from a makeup trend perspective. For the most part, faces have been natural with some contouring and highlighting here and there. Lipstick has been practically non-existent (Diane Kendal’s gorgeous Helmut Newton lips at Jason Wu being an exception), with some makeup artists even going so far as using foundation and concealer to cover lips up completely. So the color story is in the eyes for spring 2013. And it scares us a little.

Teen Vogue‘s Newest Contributor Hailee Steinfeld Shares Her Hair Secrets

After finally nestling into our seats at Peter Som, we couldn’t help but notice a stunning brunette beauty in a striking green lace dress getting seated in the front row–yep, we’re talking about none other than 15-year-old Hailee Steinfeld.

And while Steinfeld looked gorgeous (and very sophisticated and grown up, we might add) in her Peter Som frock (a gift, she tells us, from the designer), it was her super-long, glossy mane that really caught our eye. We had to know her hair secrets.

Peter Som Spring 2013

Peter Som Spring 2013

The Clothes: Peter Som has long-ago established himself as one of the prints-masters at NYFW, and for Spring 2013 he definitely lived up to his reputation for bold and unexpected color combinations. The first look to come out on the runway consisted of roomy, to-the-knee shorts in a kind of abstract floral print, and textured sweater over a fully-buttoned crisp white collar that was embellished with glittery floral appliques–themes and silhouettes that ran throughout the collection. (On another note, what do we call these to-the-knee shorts? Shants? Are these a thing?).

Designer nail polish collaborations are nothing new, and despite Cathy Horyn declaring at the end of 2011 that they were boring, they don’t seem to be slowing down yet. Trendspotting: Warm Monochrome Prints

At this point, no one needs to spell out for you that prints were a huge trend last spring, mostly of the colorful, floral variety. But where spring was bright and sunny, fall has taken a turn towards the more staid and sombre, or at least as much as a digital print can be considered Read more →

Peter Som Fall 2012: Cleansing The Color Palette

“It’s a palate cleanser as I was really focusing on the line of the clothes,” says Peter Som of the 7-look long whiteout—sheer white nylon chiffon and organza dresses alternating with white silk crepe tuxedo shirts and ivory flannel pants layered with fuzzy ivory Mongolian lamb or lacquered wool tweed coats—that opened his Fall 2012 collection.

Though color emerged for the remainder of the show, the all-white looks at the beginning were quite a departure for the designer, considering he is known for his bold color combinations. Case in point: a number of the audience members were sporting some of Som’s photo-real, multi-colored floral items from the Spring 2012 collection.

But Som didn’t forego his color combining entirely:
