The Top 10 Fall Trends from London Fashion Week

Playing the name game in London is far from easy: So many cool young designers, so many unusual names, and only a week to make sense of them all. It’s largely due to the aversion many Brit design talents have to being crafted into the sort of the fashion celebs we adore stateside. No worries; the clothes spoke volumes for themselves, as London dialed down the quirked, and turned out one of the most sophisticated seasons in recent years. See for yourself!

Carey Mulligan Got Married in Prada… and Pink Wellies: Raaain on your wedding day… will force you to wear galoshes. Carey Mulligan eschewed bespoke Christian Louboutin blue-soled bridal pumps, opting for a pair of pink Wellies due to inclement weather. {Fabsugar UK}

Vena Cava Talks LF USA Partnership, Cat Food: The folks over at Refinery 29 sat down with Vena Cava designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Maycock to talk about how LF USA saved their brand, and future plans for their label, which could include cat food. {Refinery 29}

Lady Grantham Lost Her Luggage: The Downton Abbey star says that on her way to the premiere of her new movie, Cheerful for the Wedding, her luggage (which included her dress for the event) got lost. Thankfully, Project Runway alum Daniel Vosovic was on hand to lend Ms. McGovern an LBD for the occasion. {Page Six}

Pringle of Scotland Fall 2012: Grown-Up Rebellion

LONDON–Pringle of Scotland is the thinking woman’s label, as evidenced by fan Tilda Swinton, who was sadly missing from yesterday’s show. However, Rose Byrne–still rocking her Anna Wintour ‘do and decked out in fall 2012 Pringle–came instead. While Pringle probably won’t be her go-to label for the Oscars red carpet this weekend, she will have no shortage of lovely things to choose from in this collection once fall hits.

Alistair Carr based his collection around a girl who is “growing out of her teenage angst into a sophisticated woman.” To that end, the models all had dip-dyed hair but there was no sign of punkiness in the clothes.

In Which We Play ‘Caption This’ with the Spring Campaigns

I decided to enter the New Yorker cartoon caption contest for the first time this week (cross your fingers for “Shut up, Kim Kardaspian”!) which got me thinking about how all fashion ads are really begging for captions. That Lanvin campaign with snakes randomly strewn about? It needed a caption! So did morning-after Balenciaga and Read more →

Pringle of Scotland Spring 2012: Art Meets the Archive

Monday was a good day for both clothes and celeb spotting at the London shows. While London front row faves Irina Lazareanu and Harley Viera-Newton chatted at Pringle of Scotland, Tilda Swinton quietly and gracefully swanned in and took her seat. She’s completely stunning, and rather unassuming in real life, posing for pictures then quietly sitting down. And tall! Pringle should have begged her to take to the runway for them.

Speaking of the runway, you’ll recall that Pringle has had some creative director upheaval. Clare Waight Keller went to Chloé early in the summer; this is Alistair Carr’s first collection for the label. For his first outing, he mined the 1960s and the Pringle archive, specifically riffing on the twinset.

Fashion House Musical Chairs: A Visual Guide
Fashion Is Fun

Fashion House Musical Chairs: A Visual Guide

Usually, it’s editorial shakeups that get us all confused and inspire us to create befuddling charts and guides to recap and (at least attempt to) make sense of movement within the fashion industry. Lately, however, it seems that most of the movement is taking place at big fashion houses. Whether it’s the economy or designers getting burnt-out, it seems like a top level position opens (or gets filled) every week.

From Galliano’s exit from Dior to Marios Schwab’s from Halston (which happened so recently we didn’t have a chance to include it), here’s our little visual guide to the recent ins and outs at major fashion houses.

Fashion News Roundup: Real Housewives‘ Danielle Is Now a Stripper, Tilda Swinton With a Bowl Cut, and Images From Iris Apfel’s Jewelry Line

Peek Iris Apfel’s Jewlery Line for HSN: The inimitable icon of everything accessories is having a moment (though, honestly, when isn’t she?). Recent news of an upcoming jewelery line with HSN is now supported by a few choice pics, resplendent with all the great costume-y kitsch you’d expect. Clear space around your neck accordingly. {Racked}

Danielle from Real Housewives NJ Becomes a Stripper: Ultimate LOL! After her contract was not renewed for next season, 48-year-old Danielle Staubs has signed a three-year contract with a New York gentlemen’s club where she will give one live, fully nude performance and pose for the club’s website. Bravo: the real gateway drug. {Daily Mail}

Yohji Yamamoto Reflects on Life and Ideals: Adidas produced a 30 minute documentary, “Yohji Yamamoto: This Is My Dream,” as a semi-promotional tool but probably wasn’t expecting it to be quite so, well, good. The doc chronicles the month leading up to the Y-3 show at New York Fashion Week and the designer is surprisingly open about his personal life and creative processes, commenting on his desire to simply “cut clothes” and remain outside of the vicious trend cycle. {WWD}
