You can always count on there being a few heartwarming surprises at a Rachel Antonoff presentation–on top of a collection of sweetly wearable clothes, of course. And, needless to say, yesterday’s presentation did not disappoint.
Let’s start with the clothes and then get to Mr. Wendy (the cat supermodel) and the amazing performance by Alia Shawkat. (Yes, I asked her about Arrested Development.)
For fall Antonoff diversified her line, with a larger variety of pieces, from two-toned pants to embroidered dresses to a red miniskirt with a change purse sewn in as a pocket. There was a dynamic range of color and print, with easy separates for day, and elegant dress options for night. The starting point for such a mature collection, was actually an activity Rachel did with her mom as a child.
Today the Fashionista team was busy running all over Manhattan to catch shows from Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Altuzarra, Band of Outsders, Rachel Antonoff, Wes Gordon, and so many more!
In between taxis, subways, and the occasional pedi-cab, we managed to take a few snaps of NYFW through our eyes. Click through the gallery to see everything from Gisele backstage at Alexander Wang (yes, this happened and we almost died) to a real cat posing with models at Rachel Antonoff!
Do you love cute summer shoes, ice cream, and Marcel the Shell? Then Bass Hearts RA’s spring lookbook is just for you.
Shot on location in Long Beach Island, New Jersey (the best part of the Jersey shore, trust me) the lookbook features New York comedienne Jenny Slate in Bass Hearts RA’s coolest styles. Haven’t you learnt that you know you can always count on Rachel Antonoff for a perfectly styled lookbook? Because outside of her imaginative designs, she just has really pretty and really talented friends.
Rachel Antonoff’s quirky-cool presentations are always a refreshing respite from the sometimes monotonous drone of Fashion Week–In a week where shows and presentations often follow the same formula, Antonoff’s are completely different, unusual and, best of all, pretty fun.
This year, Antonoff took her presentation to darker levels than ever before, looking to unusual sources for inspiration: “It’s sort of Minnie-Mouse-meets-Wednesday-Addams,” she told us. “But for the set we obviously went more Wednesday Addams.” The set, designed by Aux Armes in collaboration with Antonoff, was made to look like the inside of a black and white cartoon, no doubt inspired by the original Addams Family show, complete with spooky tombstones and gothic looking furniture. The models’ slightly undone braids, “a modern take on Wednesday,” Antonoff said, completed the effect–while pal Tennessee Thomas’ tunes made sure the presentation kept a modern flavor.

Every time we’re sent the Rachel Antonoff look book, we know it’s going to be our favorite of the season. How can we be so sure? Because Antonoff’s tome always combines her immaculate clothing collection, her fashion friends (previously Katrina Bowden, Tenessee Thomas, Alia Shawkat, Julia Frakes, and Scarlett Johansson), and a cute animal.
For fall, Rachel Antonoff took Teen Vogue‘s Laurel Pantin and friend Danielle F. to the Gillen Mini Horse Farm in Blairstown, NJ. Yes, a mini horse farm. But it’s not just the teeny ponies that won over our hearts, it’s Antonoff’s witty and wearable designs, named after her flock of fashion followers. There’s the Jannuzzi vest, the Tenn-Tom dress, and the Jack cat pocket jumper named after her brother, Steel Train frontman Jack Antonoff, who is actually allergic to cats.
On top of these creations there’s also the adorable Macy cat pocket skirt, Shiffman dress in Valentine print, and sheer back Kelsy dress. As you can see, it’s been hard for me to pick a favorite from Antonoff’s collection, because I kind of want it all.
So click through and see if you can decide which piece is your favorite. I promise it will be hard.

Remember how excited you were when you first saw Bass’ SS11 collaboration with darling designer Rachel Antonoff?
Well now you can relive that joy by taking a peek at fall’s forthcoming styles. The Bass Hearts RA fall collection is filled with wintry styles sure to warm your heart. Bass’ leathers are mixed with adorable velvets and sporty plaids to create a cute mix of proper and punk. Popular styles from last season, like the Alice and Wendybird, have been transformed by Antonoff’s swift hand into perfect shoes to brighten a fall day.
Finding our way to Rachel Antonoff’s prom-themed presentation was sort of like snagging a date to the dance–a bit confusing and awkward. Held on the third floor of Fiorella H. LaGuardia High School near Lincoln Center, it required some wandering through the linoleum halls, but once we heard the boppy chords of The Like drifting from the gymnasium, we knew we were in the right place.
Rachel Antonoff’s SS11 lookbook hit our inboxes last night to our great delight. Featuring 30 Rock actress Katrina Bowden, new model Ruby Jean, and the most adorable kitten we’ve seen since Antonoff’s last lookbook (for Bass Hearts Rachel Antonoff), the lookbook captures all the charm of childhood while showcasing Antonoff’s very adult and wearable pieces.
It’s hard to say what we want more, the adorable clothes or the cute kitten. In the ideal world, we’d get both!
