It was something that was sitting in the back of ours minds during the first few days of fashion week. A fur hat at Rachel Zoe (how cozy!), a cowboy hat that opened Nicholas K (how bold!), a floppy hat at Nicole Miller (how boho!) and then BAM. Monday happened.

Rachel Zoe may have had that baby, but her growing empire shows no signs of slowing down. From her successful clothing line to her reality television and overall stardom, Zoe has become more than just a stylist (honestly, how much styling could she really be doing these days?)
Today’s WWD, the paper that gave her first collection a sizable spread, chronicles her latest projects. Television is definitely in the cards, but not in the way you might expect.
Stylist-turned-reality star-turned-designer Rachel Zoe has certainly taken a turn for the chic with her Pre-Fall collection, incorporating more tailored shapes into her generally bohemian style. Her designs this season are all about structure and lush materials, with a not-so subtle nod to the ’60s and ’70s. Military detailing plays a strong role in separates and outerwear, with brightly colored slim coats getting the double-breasted Sgt. Pepper treatment.
The ’70s are still very much here, in the form of slim (and insanely flattering) to-the-floor flares, pussy bow blouses and dresses, and super glam shaggy fur vests. Slim-fit jackets toughen up ultra-feminine maxi dresses; thigh-high slits and tattered hemlines add a rocker vibe to otherwise sophisticated pieces.
Rachel Zoe presented her second collection for her eponymous line today at at her showroom in midtown Manhattan. It was a hot-ticket show with a line snaking around 39th St. onto Broadway. And, ever the perfectionist, Zoe delivered. The showroom was abuzz (and aTwitter) with praise for Zoe, and before we got a chance to talk to her, stylist Mary Alice Stephensen gushed that she “LOVED IT” three times.
The collection of effortlessly sexy summery separates was inspired by “Brigitte Bardot in the south of France in the late ’60s early ’70s” Zoe told us. “It’s when she was running around being glamorous without ever trying to be glamorous.” Which is quite a thing to aspire to. But Zoe’s collection might just get you there.
