Back in February when Raf Simons was abruptly let go at Jil Sander after seasons of critically-acclaimed collections, fashion insiders were all asking the same question: Why? Was Simons starting his own line? Was he going to Dior? Was it politics? Personal differences?

But it turns out the reason was probably a whole lot simpler than that: Simons was let go because, well, he didn’t make the company any money.

Back in October, when Raf Simons showed his first ready-to-wear collection for Dior, we noticed that several of the models seemed to stumble on the runway. We came up with the theory that maybe, just maybe, those shoes were pretty uncomfortable, perhaps even unwalkable, in order to stump so many runway regulars.

While the jury is definitely still out on that, Marion Cotillard’s actions on the red carpet last night seem to lend credence to our theory.
