Four cities, one season: Fall 2013. Nemo kicked the collections off and every city to follow added its own dose of wintry chill. Somehow all that cold weather caused a discernible note of restraint to float through the collections. Don’t worry–the passion and excitement were still there, but designers actively pursued defining new ways we can really dress next fall. These looks felt grounded in the return of the “Lady,” as fashion’s pendulum swung away from the risqué, toward the refreshingly refined (spike-studded shoulders be damned). Can you think of a better way to spend your Monday night than ogling the best, craziest, most-bejeweled shoes of the Fall 2013 season? Didn’t think so.
Though we’re only weeks into President Obama’s second term, the First Lady seems to be gravitating towards a few select designers: There’s Jason Wu, of course, and now Reed Krakoff has emerged as a clear FLOTUS fave.
Case in point: For her second official White House portrait, Michelle Obama was photographed in the Green Room of the White House wearing a navy silk and wool crepe dress by Reed Krakoff.
Thanks to Nemo dumping 10 inches of snow on NYC–not to mention frigid temperatures in the 20s–outerwear was at the front of everyone’s minds this past week. Luckily, New York designers were totally on top of it and offered a pretty stellar selection of coats and jackets for fall 2013.
Fashion week came, and brought a feisty lil’ friend named Nemo along for the ride–forcing us to consider forgoing, “Well, doesn’t she look chic!” for, “Well, doesn’t she look warm?!” The runways begged to differ, offering up endless new ways to bundle-up beautifully for fall 2013. Reed Krakoff shows are always classy affairs. I walked to yesterday’s fall show at a gallery space in west Chelsea behind three brand devotees, all of them toting Reed Krakoff bags. I wouldn’t call them “Reed girls” because the kind of ladies who wear Reed Krakoff are definitely women. Stylish women with means, who have their shit together. They’re coolly elegant, just like Krakoff’s designs.
The Ladurée macaron has been the unofficial food of fashion week for the past few years (sorry, cupcakes are so 2009). Last September, Ladurée collaborated with Lanvin Creative Director, Alber Elbaz, to create a limited-edition bubblegum pink macaron and box. And next up: Reed Krakoff.
Pre-Fall 2013 has wrapped!…or has it?…Nobody can quite say for sure, but with the Fall 2013 shows quickly approaching in mid-February, we figured now was as good a time as any to take inventory of our favorites from “the season between seasons.”
