Still No Designer at Schiaparelli

A few weeks ago Diego Della Valle, the Italian businessman who’s relaunching the Schiaparelli label, annoucned that he’d name a designer “soon.” Well, it looks like “soon” just turned to “later,” according to WWD.

Farida Khelfa, who’s a spokeswoman for the label, told editors at a luncheon in Paris that the first Schiaparelli show will be in “June or July.” The first show had been tentatively planned for January, so that’s a pretty significant delay. The reason?

‘Schiaparelli and Prada’ Exhibit Not a Hit For the Met

The Costume Institute’s “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibition at the Met closed on Sunday to disappointing numbers. According to The New York Times, total attendance at the exhibit came to 339,838. Last year’s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit attracted nearly double that number: 661,509. Adventures in Copyright: Solange Azagury-Partridge vs. Kirna Zabete x Target Lips Accessories

Despite the fact that Kirna Zabete for Target doesn’t hit stores until September 9, we’re already quite familiar with the collection. In fact, perhaps too familiar. An email tipster pointed out that the puffed-up pucker design bears a strikingly similar resemblance to an already-existing enamel ring made by UK-based accessories designer Solange Azagury-Partridge.

First Look: Schiaparelli’s New Couture Salon Has Lobster-Shaped Furniture and No Designer

Does a famous fashion house even need a designer? Based on the Schiaparelli house’s latest activities, it doesn’t seem entirely necessary–at least not yet. Miuccia Prada Might Not Attend the Met Ball Because She ‘Fell Off Her High-Rise Platform Shoes’

It’s Met Ball Monday! Unless you’ve been totally off the grid and care nothing about fashion, you know that the theme of the Costume Institute’s exhibit this year is “Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations.” Suzy Menkes just reviewed the exhibit for the IHT and chatted with Miuccia Prada, who opened up a bit more about her conflicted feelings on being the focus of this year’s exhibit.

Back in January, Prada reportedly expressed misgivings about the show, but then later her reps told us that her comments were taken out of context and that she was honored to be featured by the Met. But Menkes’ story reveals that Prada still has some reservations.
