Paris Fashion Week: Fashionista’s Top 10 Collections

PARIS–Another fashion month over. Though doesn’t it seem like it’s always fashion week?

Anyway, Paris just wrapped and we’re still trying to wrap our minds around all the fashion we’ve taken in over the past nine days. Givenchy had everyone raving, Commes des Garçons had everything thinking, and Stefano Pilati’s final collection for YSL had everyone talking. Kenzo and Carven just made us want to go shopping. Now.

Here are our top 10 collections from Paris fashion week, in no particular order.

Fashion News Roundup: FHM Philippines Pulls Racist Cover, Kate Middleton Wears M Missoni, and Emma Watson To Star in Sofia Coppola Film

FHM Philippines Scraps Racist Cover: FHM Philippines planned to publish their March issue with a cover featuring local fair-skinned actress, Bela Padilla pushing past a group of Filipina models painted to appear black. The offending photo was captioned “stepping out of the shadows.” As expected, FHM Philippines “apologized” profusely, saying, “In our pursuit to come up with edgier covers, we will strive to be more sensitive.” When the BBC asked Ms. Padilla about the cover, she expressed surprise at the negative reaction, claiming they “weren’t thinking of racial discrimination” during the shoot. It seems Ms. Padilla and co. weren’t thinking at all. {BBC}

Kate Moss, Not Alexa Chung, Was Supposed to Float on Knives at Stella McCartney’s Party: The model was set to be in illusionist Hans Klok’s magic act, but her paralyzed arm kept her from participating. Alexa Chung, being the trooper she is, stepped in at the last minute. {Grazia}

Kate Middleton Wears an M Missoni Coat: What’s that you say? Kate Middleton wore clothes on a visit somewhere? Fancy that! The Duchess hit up Fortnum & Mason yesterday in a blue M Missoni coat and grey suede pumps. {Grazia}

Fashion News Roundup: Madonna Wears Agent Provocateur On Her Single Cover, Coco Rocha to Host a Reality Show, and Kanye West’s Shoes Get Picked Up

Madonna Barely Wears Agent Provocateur on New Single Cover: Along with her droves of loyal fans, Madonna can now count lingerie brand Agent Provocateur as one of her biggest supporters – in the extremely literal sense. No denying that Madge looks gooood on her “Girls Gone Wild” single cover, but we’ve just one caveat: While it’s no secret that some things go south with age, it seems Madonna’s nips have full-on vanished. Life is a mystery… {Telegraph}

Coco Rocha’s New Online Beauty Show: Is Coco Rocha gearing up to be the next model mogul a la Tyra and Heidi? The Canadian cutie is set to host a new online reality series airing this April called Canada’s Best Beauty Talent, which will feature hair and beauty experts competing for a showcase in a magazine spread. You go Coco! {HuffPo Canada}

Downton Abbey Actress Looks Dead in Dominic Jones Jewelry Campaign: Would you buy jewelry from a dead person? Or more specifically, a dead Downton Abbey actress? Dominic Jones seems to think so–his latest campaign features Downton actress Jessica Brown Findlay and model Mary Charteris posing in what could easily be an ANTM shoot challenge inspired by The Others. {Refinery 29}

Kate Moss, Rihanna, and More Attend Stella McCartney’s London Dinner Show–Oh, and Alexa Chung Levitated on Swords

Stella McCartney had a special presentation tonight in London, and it sounds like it was possibly the best thing that ever happened. We were sadly not there, but we are giving the endurance tweeting award to Grazia, who kept us up to speed about what was happening inside the venue. And a lot happened. First Read more →

Cars, Canines, Candy Colors: Trendspotting the Spring 2012 Ads

The past weeks have seen a flurry of SS12 campaigns come pouring in, from Givenchy’s moody beach scenes to Chanel’s acrobats. In the mix, we couldn’t help but notice a few resounding trends, some stranger than others.

On the more expected side of the spectrum are beachy seascapes and smiling models – typical summertime tropes. But more unusual trends are emerging, like models standing around cars. If the auto industry needs a reboot, maybe they should just get Gisele to stand in front of a Chrysler?

Click through our gallery of trends in the spring 2012 campaigns, so far. With ads still to be released from Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and Céline, there are sure to be some more kooky trends, though maybe none as weird as Helena Bonham-Carter’s sickly spots for Marc Jacobs… We’ll just have to wait and find out.

14 Designer Versions of the ‘Ugly’ Christmas Sweater

Taking fuddy duddy, traditionally American things and turning them into high fashion seems to be a budding trend. (See: Glamping.) The latest target of the luxury fashion world’s makeover is everyone’s favorite holiday tradition: The Christmas Sweater.

Somewhere between classy (as defined by Derek Blasberg) and campy (as defined by Corky St. Clair) is this list of Christmas sweaters from big name designers like Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. It’s the best new mix of high and low, plus you’ll probably wear these Christmas sweaters again, as opposed to the one your mom made you with yarn and a hot glue gun. (Sorry, Mom!)

Check out the festive options available for Christmas and get in the holiday spirit!
