Temperley London Fall 2013: Darker Luxury

Temperley London Fall 2013: Darker Luxury

Neither Middleton sisters were sitting front row at Alice Temperley this season–but their presence was certainly felt on the runway. The brand’s fall 2013 collection was full of ladylike coats, jackets and frocks befitting the Duchess and her party-planning sister.

Trendspotting: Sheer Panel Skirts

Showing skin is taking a turn for the demure. London has been chock full of skirts with sheer panelling, a more cautious take on the sheer trend, though no less suggestive. There is certainly no shortage of options, either.

Color, Crop Tops and Pant Suits: 11 Unconventional Wedding Looks From the Spring Bridal Shows

Many modern brides walk the line these days of wanting to maintain some tradition in their weddings while also highlighting their individuality. For sartorial risk takers, bridal designers have plenty of options for brides who want something besides the usual full skirted ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline (not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course.)

Rules are falling by the wayside: bright color, interesting hemlines, and even pants (and a crop top!) walked down the aisle runway for spring 2013.

Click through to see the most unconventional wedding gowns we’ve spied this bridal season.

Temperley London Fall 2012: Religious Opulence

Temperley London Fall 2012: Religious Opulence

Is every it-girl in London blonde and named Pixie or Peaches? It really seems that way. Anyway, a few of them were at the Temperley show last night, including singer Pixie Lott and Peaches Geldof, who was very pregnant. Minnie Driver was there, too, and it was a relief to see a brunette. That other P-named girl, Pippa Middleton, was a no-show this season, after sparking such excitement last season when she slid into the front row moments before the show, that even the pit photographers started murmuring and all trained their cameras on her. But we’re pretty sure she’s already plotting which fall Temperley frock she’ll wear to her next party.

Holiday Gift Guide: 10 New Coffee Table Books For the Fashion-Obsessed

It’s officially mid-November, which means it’s probably time to start shopping for holiday gifts…or at least thinking about it. Not sure what to get your fashion-obsessed loved one? This year, we’d recommend a pretty fashion book, especially because there are so many good ones that have come out recently.

Who wouldn’t want a photographic look back at the house of Gucci or Carine Roitfeld’s career sitting on their coffee table? We certainly do, so we’ve compiled what we believe are the 10 best fashion books to have come out this year. And if you end up buying one of them for yourself, that’s okay. We won’t tell!

Alice Temperley Talks Her New Book, London Fashion Week vs. New York Fashion Week and Dressing Pippa Middleton

Alice Temperley has been making her feminine and gorgeous clothes for ten years now. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, which is quite an accomplishment in the fickle world of fashion, she released a new book last week, called True British: Alice Temperley (Rizzoli New York, 2011). The book includes a foreword from Lucy Yeomans, Editor of Harper’s Bazaar UK, and images from international fashion magazines, Temperley campaigns and events. In addition to all these pretty pictures, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at her fabrics and design process, too.

We were wowed by Temperley’s spring 2012 show in London a few weeks ago (and also admittedly by the fact that Pippa Middleton was sitting front and center at the show) and got to have a chat with the Brit designer via email about her thoughts on London style and London fashion week, those comments she made about New York Fashion Week being too commercial, and Pippa Middleton.

Trendspotting: Roaring ’20s

It wasn’t enough that the latter part of New York Fashion Week was dancing the Charleston (well, not literally), or that a select few London shows saw their waistlines drop. Now, Milan has jumped on board the 1920s trend, and that was just in the first day. You may have noticed some vintage-inspired looks at Gucci or even Alberta Ferretti’s light-as-air exits at the beginning of the show.

Filming of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby is underway in Australia and we think designers are getting a little inspired.

Temperley Spring 2012: Pippa Middleton Makes Her Fashion Week Debut at Temperley’s Grace Kelly-Inspired Show

I’m going to start this review by apologizing profusely to Alice Temperley, because her gorgeous spring collection did not have my full attention. And that’s not because it was boring. Just the opposite, in fact. Held in a grand hall in the British Museum, models entered through a central door, walked a circuit in front of the audience, then went to stand on the stairs in a lovely tableau. There was drama, there was sparkle, there was visible nudity under many sheer looks. But Pippa Middleton was in the front row.

Pippa quietly snuck in before the show started and a pair of guards stood in front of her until everyone was seated. I’m not sure the room really realized who was there until the photogs figured it out and all lenses were suddenly aimed at her. She looked fresh-faced and lovely, and smiled throughout the show, obviously liking what she saw. And here’s what she saw:
