Trendspotting Spring 2012: Printed Suits

Paging all Ziggy Stardust wannabes: It seems like the it-trend to come out of NYFW will be the bright, printed suit. Spotted everywhere from Altuzarra to Yigal Azrouel, the printed suit is the kooky step-child of last spring’s color-blocking trend: pop-hued and positive feeling, but with a pattern that would make William Morris blush. Andrew Weir Shows Us the Crazy, Amazing World of Casting, Talks Underage Models

For the third season in a row, ACW Worldwide, the casting agency founded by legendary casting director Andrew Weir, invited us to attend their huge day-long spring/summer 2012 casting this Sunday. As I’m about a foot too short to be a model, we were not there hoping to get a spot in one of the four major shows Weir was casting (Thakoon, Rebecca Taylor, Jen Kao and Rachel Zoe) and we will probably never know what it feels like to be one of the hundreds of gorgeous amazons filing through the Hudson Hotel library all day, walking for an audience of Weir and his staff. However, we now know what it’s like to be on the other side of the table–we got to sit right next to Weir and shadow him for about an hour of non-stop models. It was really fun. And informative.

Click through to get all the dirt on what goes on at a casting table, including why we think it might be a while before underage models are completely filtered out of runway shows, plus tons of photos!

Would You Rather…? The Buffalo Check Edition

Kim Jones’ debut collection for Louis Vuitton men’s yesterday was inspired by tribes in Africa, the same inspiration that Thakoon Panichgul looked to for his Fall 2011 womenswear show. But not only were the two designers inspired by African tribes, they used the same red and blue buffalo check print in their collections.

So would you rather sport Vuitton’s checked separates or Thakoon’s? Or maybe you’re more of a tartan girl anyway….

Target Re-releases 34 Looks from Past Collaborations With Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon and More

Over the past five years, Target’s GO International designer collections have really enhanced our wardrobes without depleting our bank accounts. But the most coveted pieces from each collection have always flown off the shelves, and there are some dresses that we just couldn’t manage to get our hands on.

Luckily, Target has introduced the GO International Designer Collective, where they’ve given us a second chance to pick up dresses from past collaborations with Proenza Schouler, Zac Posen, Rodarte, Thakoon, and many more.

A few months ago we predicted which designs we hoped would make the cut. Sadly only a couple of our selections (the Rodarte slip dress and the Thakoon tie-waist frock) are among the collection of 34 reissued dresses (all priced under $50!), but there are still plenty of cute pieces to go around including Jovovich-Hawk mini dresses and floral print shifts from Tucker and Tracy Feith.

So here’s your second chance–the collection will be available on March 13th at Target.com and in store until April 10th or, as we’ve learned the hard way, until supplies last.

Click through to browse the complete re-released collection.

Thakoon Fall 2011: Prints at the Plaza
Reviews

Thakoon Fall 2011: Prints at the Plaza

For his fall collection, Thakoon Panichgul juxtaposed the luxury and opulence of the fashions of Versailles and the vibrancy and prints from the tribes of Africa. And what better local to show the collection than New York’s own palace, the Plaza Hotel?

From the gate, Panichgul’s royal blue and orange plaid puffer jackets, asymmetrical dress, and peplum skirt brought life to the ornate ballroom. There were red velvet booties fit for Louis XIV, and trains and ruffles that we could picture a modern Marie Antoinette in. The designer’s tribal influence was imagined in long printed vests, red and black striped cropped pants, and colorful chokers.
