What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day 7

New York Fashion Week, everyone is tired and no one is sure what day it actually is. That said, today proved to be an awesome one for us.

We saw Yoko Ono, Lil’ Kim, Nicki Minaj, Ricky Martin, Tyson Beckford (yum), and all in one day. Oh yeah, and some truly inspiring clothes from Proenza Schouler and Marchesa, among others.

Check out all our pictures in today’s gallery!

The Blonds and Jeremy Scott Spring 2012: Hooray for Ass-less Chaps and Playboy Bunnies on the Runway

Sometimes, you need a little break from the “serious” fashion. All “sophisticated minimalism” and the “new modern silhouette” makes fashion a dull girl (or boy). Fashion is fun! It shouldn’t be technical all the time. Luckily, we have The Blonds and Jeremy Scott to look forward to each season to slap us in the face when we start to get a little bleary eyed. Check out the reviews and pictures from The Blonds sparkly Katy-Perry-meets-Gaga leotards and micro-minidresses and Jeremy Scott’s Vegas-sexy wild West vacation wear. These clothes may not be practical, or even really wearable (unless you’re a Playboy Bunny, I guess), but they are a lot of fun to look at when monochrome pantsuits are getting you down.

The Blonds Spring 2012: Playboy Bunny with a Twist

Dear The Blonds,

Thanks for putting on the most fun show of fashion week. After days of sitting properly watching lovely shift dresses walk back and forth, it was really great to mingle with the over-the-top crowd and cheer for the models. And the clothes, they were great too. Because there’s nothing to counter this season’s sedated sex appeal like Phillip Blond dressed as a Playboy Bunny. And he looked better than most of the Hef’s actual bunnies, too. (Did we mention Playboy sponsored the show?)

Sincerely yours,

Steff

Fashion News Roundup: Karen Elson Designs for Nine West, Gaga Gets Dressed Up, and Victoria Beckham is Really Rich

Fashion News Roundup: Karen Elson Designs for Nine West, Gaga Gets Dressed Up, and Victoria Beckham is Really Rich

Karen Elson for Nine West: The British model will be designing a line for Nine West’s Vintage America collection (makes sense). The line launches in August and will include shoes, handbags, and jewelry with a vintage feel. {WWD, subscription required}

See Lady Gaga Covered With Babies and Dressed as a Baby: New York Magazine invited costume designers, artists, and general weirdos to come up with outfits for Lady Gaga. There are a disturbing number of baby references. (We’d love to see her in the Blonds’ unicorn costume, though). {NewYork Magazine}

Victoria Beckham, Florence Welch, and Natalia Vodianova on Sunday Times’ Rich List: The Sunday Times in the UK released its annual “Rich List” and lots of fashion people are enjoying the posh life. Like Posh, who earned £165 million with Becks last year. Emma Watson, Florence Welch, and models Lily Cole and Natalia Vodianova are also blessed with riches. {VogueUK}

The Blonds Fall 2011: Season of the Dragon

The Blonds Fall 2011: Season of the Dragon

I got a whole lotta butt crack in my face last night at The Blonds show, and that wasn’t even the most memorable part. In an effort to one-up the spectacle that the duo always deliver (take Betsey Johnson’s show; add speed), Amanda Lepore donned a red mesh dress that gave new meaning to the word cheeky. It also made sitting behind her a less than boring pre-show experience.

But, of course, she was outdone. After all, this is the duo that dresses Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and Adam Lambert, among others. The Blonds do costumes, not clothes, and accordingly, they always find a way to showcase their creations in more of a performance than a presentation.
