Hedi Slimane May Bring Haute Couture Back to YSL

Hedi Slimane May Bring Haute Couture Back to YSL

Raf Simons may have gotten all the buzz this past couture week, but now it’s Hedi Slimane‘s turn.

WWD got a sneak peek at an interview in Vogue Paris’s August issue with YSL’s newly minted creative director, Hedi Slimane. In it, he reveals that, despite the fact that he’s never designed womenswear, let alone couture, he might be the one to bring it back. He says, “Haute couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day,” but that “the priority today is to revamp and redeploy the luxury ready-to-wear.” To that end, the issue will also mark the unveiling of the ready-to-wear label’s new name and logo:

Museum Hop: 44 Fashion Exhibitions Happening Around the World This Summer

Ever since Alexander McQueen’s Met Exhibit shattered records, more and more museums have been opening their hallowed halls to display clothing–not art. Fashionista Week In Review: YSL Rebrands Under Slimane, Kate Upton Takes Over the Internet and the Best of Resort, Part Two

Saint Laurent Paris Does The Timewarp: On Wednesday, we reported that Yves Saint Laurent might be dropping the “Yves” as a means of rebranding the label under the direction of Hedi Slimane, and the very next day the storied fashion house confirmed, sending countless tweeters, bloggers and writers into a tizzy. We, on the other hand, started to think about what would happen if other design houses were to do the same.

Kate Upton’s Busy, Busy Week: The busty blonde graced the cover of GQ (which coincidentally channeled Azealia Banks in her latest music video for “Jumanji”), spoke onscreen about her love of America (and large breasts) and even taught Jimmy Fallon how to Cat Daddy. How’d she do it all? With some seriously genius self-marketing skills.

Asian Beauty Products That Might Just Save Your Skin: Okay, so maybe they won’t save your skin, but they’re certainly bizarre and intriguing enough to warrant a test-run. From charcoal shampoo to a chin contour mask to collagen-boosting marshmallows, we’re curious to see what will be first to hit the shelves of Sephora first (or, alternatively, be banned by the FDA).

Model-Turned-Actress, Everybody’s Doing It: Models are good looking people, and so are actresses. Actresses appear on magazine covers, and so do models. So it makes sense that models might whet their palates and give acting a try, right? Right. We rounded up the many, many models who have transitioned from runway to silver screen and analyzed how seamlessly and successfully they made the jump.

You May Want to Start Buying Your Vintage YSL Now, as Brand’s Overhaul Is Set to Make Values Soar

As if vintage YSL items weren’t sought after enough already, the brand’s recent overhaul is about to make them all the more covetable.

According to Christos Garkinos, co-owner of famed vintage boutique Decades, whenever a brand hires a new creative director, there is a sense of a new era beginning, and “the prior designer’s pieces become more collectible.” Add to that the fact that the new designer will be completely overhauling the brand’s image and logo, and you’ve got a recipe for a seriously collectible–and therefore more valuable–vintage market.
