Fashion News Roundup: Marc Jacobs Cast In A Movie, A Pippa Middleton Book and Lauren Conrad’s Kiddie Halloween Costumes

Marc Jacobs Is Going To Be In A Movie: Marc Jacobs let a little secret slip at the WSJ Innovator of the Year Awards this weekend: “I got cast in a role in a movie,” he told Style.com. “They’re filming next week and I’m excited. I get to play a character that’s not myself at all.” Wonder what movie it is? {WWD}

Missed Connection From the YSL Sample Sale: Whoever was wearing purple pants and had a bunch of shoes was apparently the “prettiest girl” at the YSL sample sale last week; the mystery woman inspired a missed connection that fills me with jealousy for this man who is both sentimental and a fan of YSL. {Racked}

Pippa Middleton Might Be Writing A Book On Party Planning: Pippa apparently organized her sister’s April wedding reception and frequently works for her parents party planning business, and is reportedly meeting with publishing houses to work out a party planning book deal. Fashion News Roundup: Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum Are Hosting Dueling H’ween Parties, YSL Makes Scented Mascara, and PETA Wants Gaga to Go Green

Victoria’s Secret Models’ Dueling Halloween Parties: Current Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr is hosting a NYC Halloween soiree the same night as her predecessor and Halloween queen Heidi Klum’s annual bash. It’s like a Zoolander-esque walk-off, except they’ll be wearing funny costumes and probably won’t even see each other. The horror!! Mwahaha. {NY Post}

PETA Wants Gaga in a Lettuce Dress: PETA will design a dress of leafy greens, and is even offering to supply someone to spray the ensemble with water so it doesn’t wilt. How generous! {Styleite}

Tiffany & Co. Filed a Brief in Support of Christian Louboutin’s Red Soles (in the Interest of Protecting Their Own Signature Blue)

Tiffany & Co. Filed a Brief in Support of Christian Louboutin’s Red Soles (in the Interest of Protecting Their Own Signature Blue)

Christian Louboutin, who sued Yves Saint Laurent in April for producing red-soled shoes, found themselves in an even bigger predicament when the judge presiding over the case found that Louboutin’s patented trademark on red soles wasn’t valid–putting the company in danger of losing it. Louboutin, understandably, appealed that decision, arguing that allowing other brands to use red soles would cause harm to the company, which it probably would.

A decision isn’t expected until early next year and while we wait, another prominent accessories company who happens to also have a trademark on a specific color, is legally showing their support for Louboutin. WWD has just announced that Tiffany & Co., owners of that lovely, unmistakable robin’s egg blue that covers all of their packaging, have issued an “amicus curiae.” The brief, which was filed today, basically documents the company’s support of Louboutin’s appeal, which was officially filed exactly one week ago. So, why has Tiffany & Co. gotten themselves involved?

Christian Louboutin Vs. YSL Lawsuit Continues; Louboutin Appeals Trademark Decision, Claims Judge Made ‘Errors of Law’

Christian Louboutin‘s shoes may give you an orgasm, but the current trademark lawsuit over their red soles will give you a headache. Nonetheless, Louboutin’s most recent claims are pretty interesting.

As you may remember, Louboutin sued YSL in New York Federal Court in April because the latter was selling a shoe with a red sole: Louboutin’s trademark, which the company legally obtained in 2008. Louboutin wanted a court-ordered injunction to stop YSL from selling the shoes while the case was in review. Instead, the presiding judge decided that maybe Louboutin’s trademark–the one obtained in ’08–wasn’t even valid and that one designer shouldn’t be able to have a “monopoly” on a color. Louboutin has been fighting back ever since and filed their appeal brief this Monday.

Street Style Fodder from the Spring 2012 Collections

Street Style Fodder from the Spring 2012 Collections

Every season, we notice a few key designer items that populate street style blogs more consistently than others. They’re those must-have, eye-catching pieces that end up on waiting lists because editors and other girls about town snatch them up first (probably on Moda Operandi, long before they hit stores). And then we see them on street style sites on the backs of people like Anna Dello Russo and Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt. Lately, it’s been Isabel Marant jeans, Celine everything, Miu Miu booties. But what will it be next spring?

We’ve taken another look at the spring 2012 collections to predict what we think will be catching the eyes of Scott, Tommy, Phil et al come February. Or, alternately, here is what we think those of you hoping to end up on a street style site, should wear.

YSL Spring 2012: A Confident Collection Unshaken By Rumors

YSL Spring 2012: A Confident Collection Unshaken By Rumors

PARIS–Every fashion season a few things are guaranteed: a model will fall, Anna Dello Russo will change outfits approximately 647,329 times, and a rumor will circulate that Stefano Pilati is out at YSL. This season was no exception. After the IHT’s Suzy Menkes implied in an article that Jil Sander designer Raf Simons might someday be headed for YSL, Twitter and then the blogosphere (yep, that’s us) buzzed with news that Simons was taking Pilati’s place at YSL. YSL subsequently (this is old hat to them now) issued a statement disclaiming the the report.

Last night, Pilati presented his spring 2012 collection for YSL through several ornate salons at the lavish Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild. It was a strong, confident, collection–firmly grounded in YSL’s DNA, particularly in the jewel-toned color palette–and one that didn’t hint at a designer shaken by rumors, or worse, on his way out. These were clothes for a lady of means, one who is maybe a little bored with her fancy life and who might be nasty to her waiter. She keeps her hair in a tight, low bun, cradled by a gold clip, and never lets her hair down. Her clothes are structured, especially in the shoulders, and voluminous; her pants are unforgivingly straight and skinny; and her skirts are stiff and flared, except, of course, when they’re to the floor, paisley printed, and paired with a simple white blouse.
