UPDATE: Raf Simons Is Not Going to Yves Saint Laurent

UPDATE: Raf Simons Is Not Going to Yves Saint Laurent

In the wake of Raf Simons’ gorgeous spring collection for Jil Sander and subsequent review by Suzy Menkes, a veritable media frenzy erupted over the weekend thanks to a statement by the respected fashion journalist that

“if Raf Simons ultimately takes over the helm at Yves Saint Laurent—as those familiar with the situation in Paris suggest–the designer will have found a sweet spot for his meticulous modernism.”

Well, turns out that his sweet spot is still at the helm of Jil Sander, and Stefano Pilati is still secure in his position as creative designer at Yves Saint Laurent.

Per a release we just received this morning from Yves Saint Laurent:

Yves Saint Laurent disclaims and regards as unfounded the current rumors concerning the creative direction of the house. Stefano Pilati continues to dedicate his talent and energies to Yves Saint Laurent and the coming fashion show.

Jil Sander is also refuting the rumors. According to Elle UK, Raf Simons has apparently just signed a contract for another four seasons as Jil Sander’s creative director.

This is one of those rumors that originated on Twitter–which sometimes can be better than any “official” news source–but which also sometimes proves to be a liability.

Breaking: Raf Simons Reportedly Taking Over at Yves Saint Laurent

Breaking: Raf Simons Reportedly Taking Over at Yves Saint Laurent

The New York Times‘ Suzy Menkes review of Raf Simons’ spring 2012 show for Jil Sander opens with a startling piece of news: that the designer is set to take the reins at Yves Saint Laurent, replacing Stefano Pilati as head designer.

The news is doubly surprising since Pilati’s dismissal has not yet been announced, although the designer is reportedly hard to work with and rumors about his ousting have been swirling for quite some time now. In February we reported that Pilati was rumored to be out–and named Raf Simons as a front runner to replace him.

While nothing has been confirmed by either Simons or Yves Saint Laurent, the fact that this rumor is coming from Suzy Menkes, who has been covering the industry for the paper of record for years, means it’s likely true. At the very least, it would seem that the designer, who Menkes says, “certainly has earned an audition for that position,” is in talks with the brand.

Apparently, Recessions Make Rich People Want to Spend More: Here Are 10 Handbags That Cost Five-Figures

With recessions and economic uncertainty plaguing retail all over the world, you would think products like $39,000 handbags wouldn’t do so well, right? Wrong. Apparently, the luxury market has been doing so well it’s spawned a new market: hyper-luxury.

Instead of tightening their belts, wealthy shoppers are just raising their standards, according to WWD. People want to invest (if you can call it that) in extra special things, even if that special touch, whether it’s an exotic skin or customization, makes the item that much more expensive. And designers like Fendi, Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham are more than happy to cater to those people.

Alber Elbaz puts it nicely: “If a handbag is the price of a house,” he says, “the customer wants to make sure she’s the only one who’s got it.”

Are these things expensive enough for you, luxury customers?

More Photos and Details from Kate Moss’ Wedding Weekend

Unless you decided to spend your long weekend under a rock, you probably know that Kate Moss married her longtime rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince in a private (at least more private than that other wedding), ceremony at her house in the Costwolds on Friday. Luckily, the matter of her dress was settled immediately after the ceremony with the release of these photos of her in Galliano (and the groom in YSL). And the designer did in fact attend the wedding, according to British Vogue. While the dress has gotten mixed reviews, British Vogue‘s Harriet Quick was a fan, writing: “It was a superb dress and pure Galliano–bias-cut, nostalgic and wonderful–a tribute to him. Moss returns to that waif we all fell in love with.”

Kate’s maids of honor reportedly wore Stella McCartney and Erdem, while her younger bridesmaids wore frocks made by French children’s clothing brand Bonpoint. McCartney also designed three post-wedding outfits–a first dance dress, an after-party dress and a white three-piece going away suit, which you can see below as she makes her way to the helicopter waiting to take her and Jamie to their honeymoon. According to the Mirror, one of the stops on said honeymoon will be Timbuktu, which Kate reportedly didn’t know was a real place.

Click through for photos of Kate and Jamie at the alter, the wedding cake, Anna Wintour in an amazing Prada dress talking to Marc Jacobs and Kate leaving in her Stella suit, plus some pictures of Kate and Jamie in a hotel bed that recently went up on Terry’s Diary. The Best Runway Bridal Looks Fit for Kate Moss

The Best Runway Bridal Looks Fit for Kate Moss

Let’s be honest, Kate Moss could have worn anything for her walk down the aisle with Jamie Hince and would have looked amazing.

While her Galliano-designed dress is absolutely stunning, it is a rather safe choice for the risk-taking style icon.

We’ve decided to bring you a roundup of all the best white looks from the runways, as a helpful comparison. Perhaps Moss should’ve gone a more wild route with a Viktor & Rolf creation or veered toward the classic in Narciso Rodriguez?

Check out the white ensembles we’ve selected. And let us know if you like Moss’ choice or think she could have gone more daring.

And remember, there’s still more Moss-mania to come – her reception dress is designed by Stella McCartney. Could it be one of the paillette options we’ve selected?

Pilati has also designed the groom’s wardrobe for the rest of the wedding festivities.

Yves Saint Laurent Men’s Spring 2012: An Elegant American in Paris

Yves Saint Laurent Men’s Spring 2012: An Elegant American in Paris

Long Nguyen is the co-founder/style director of Flaunt.

PARIS–When I arrived at the YSL menswear show, which took place in an intimate loft near the Jardin du Palais Royal, I found basketball star Dwyane Wade already sitting in the front row section, right off of the stage’s exit.

“This is my first time at a Paris show and today I am only seeing YSL and Givenchy,” he said when I asked if he is doing a round of shows this weekend. “These clothes are elegant but in a subtle way and not loud,” he responded when I enquired if he wears YSL on a regular basis.

Wade was wearing an ice blue mixed cotton single-breasted suit, a white cotton shirt, a dark blue silk linen scarf tied around his neck and white leather high tops embroidered with a red, white, and blue YSL logo. More than anyone so far that I’d seen at the Paris shows, Wade convey that touch of French elegance: calculated. but always giving an air of non-chalance.
