Editor’s Pick: Hayley’s Magic $40 LBD
A little while ago, I realized I did not have that one thing that fashion editors are always saying you should have: An LBD. Obviously I had to remedy that situation. Yep, I was on the hunt.

I am not someone who takes time to put myself together very well. I don’t blow dry my hair (I’m usually running out the door with wet hair) and I don’t wear a lot of makeup. Kelly Framel of The Glamourai knows a lot about how to put things and people together to make them look very pretty. She was the one who turned me on to L’Oreal Professionnel’s new True Grip texturizing powder.
Want volume? This powder will give you volume. Want messy beach-y piece-y waves? Yep, this is the stuff. I have no idea how it works. It looks like baby powder but is somehow very tacky and totally texturizing when it hits your hair.
The perfect t-shirt is the holy grail of garments. Many brands try to make the perfect one, and most–sadly–fail. But I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to look anymore.
So I don’t technically own this yet, but I’ve been thinking about it kind of incessantly for weeks, and have been desperate for a nice leather drawstring bucket bag for years.
I really like the idea of spontaneously flying to Rome, popping on a crisp top, circle skirt, head scarf, and oversized sunglasses, spotting a cute boy on a Vespa, and riding around with him off into the sunset.
Catch my drift?
As far as basic oxfords go, this one from Uniqlo is pretty much the best I’ve come across. I already own it in several colors, and plan to buy the linen version when it gets really hot out.
They’re really well-made (last for months even after loads of use) and fit nice–close to the body but not snug and just the right amount of menswear inspired. Oh, and it’s $20. Seriously you can’t beat that.
I have long wanted to be the kind of girl who wears red lipstick, but I could never find the right shade (or the courage) to pull it off. Everything I tried was too bright, too dark, too glossy.
And then Taylor Swift started wearing red lipstick.
I have so many striped pieces in my closet–dresses, tops, and even some (sort of ill-advised) pants. I’m drawn to anything striped, so was really excited that the pattern was absolutely everywhere on spring runways.
I saw these shoes at J.Crew and had a visceral reaction–a good one–to them immediately.
I actually bought them a couple of weeks ago while it was still very much winter, which means I really liked them.
I love a sundress more than maybe anyone (in my own unbiased opinion, anyway)–but you get to a point where they all start looking kind of… the same. As upsetting as it is to admit, a girl can only fill her closet with so many floral, lace, and Peter Pan collar dresses each season.
Which is why I was so intrigued by this stripy dress from ASOS.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been in pursuit of ‘the glow.’ You know, the kind that women’s magazines are always talking about? I actually remember smearing on my mother’s AHA skin cream as early as 10 years old and then being disappointed that my skin didn’t immediately take on the heavenly sheen pictured in the product’s ads. (I obviously wasn’t yet aware about photoshop).
Well, it isn’t photoshop, but this Magic Lumi primer, from L’Oreal Paris, is almost as good.
Black suede stilettos, ballet flats, a cute pair of sneakers: These are shoes everyone should have in their closet. I’ve always liked Bensimons or Supergas for my sneaks but I finally got my first pair of Converse Chucks Jack Purcells (obvi I’m a novice) when I spied them in camo. They’re just so #menswear.
