The Hunger Games marketing blitz is in full force, and we are eating it up. The movie obviously relies heavily on imagery, and the fantastical beauty looks and fashion are an integral part of the story. We’ve seen Effie Trinket’s style, but now the dapper Capitol gentleman are getting some attention in these new grooming “ads” which use some pretty cool gif-y technology. Read more »

So Beyoncé went out last night. This normally wouldn’t be a notable news item, except no one has seen her since the birth of baby Blue Ivy last month. She chose to make her post-partum debut last night at Carnegie Hall, where hubby Jay-Z performed. But that’s enough about him. Read more »

Yes, most people watched the Super Bowl last night. And so did we, if only to see the David Beckham for H&M commercial on a bigger screen (mesmerizing) and Madonna’s performace (lots of Givenchy). But after half time, we switched over to CBS to watch Morley Safer interview Anna Wintour on 60 Minutes. After all, she’s fashion’s MVP/QB, right?

Wintour was one of “Three Remarkable Women” featured in last night’s edition (Dolly Parton and Meryl Streep were the other two), and she handled herself admirably against Safer’s sometimes obnoxious line of questioning. Read more »

You have to hand it to Madonna. She killed it tonight at the Super Bowl halftime show. She did cartwheels. And walkovers. In stiletto over-the-knee boots. And she’s 53. The theme for the show was a somewhat historically confusing mix of Roman gladiator meets ancient Egyptian. Madonna’s dress was Givenchy couture, the custom headpiece was Philip Treacy (Nicki Minaj’s headdress was Erickson Beamon), and the jewelry was Bulgari. UPDATE: Those amazing over-the-knee boots were custom stretch leather Miu Miu with a special ‘M’ on the heel for Madonna and Miu Miu. Click through to see the one and only Material Girl in action. World Peace.

1. How did all of the designers magically end up in Union Square after they were told to search for inspiration in Central Park?

2. Wait, isn’t this challenge the most genius way to pick up guys?

3. Why is Mondo wearing a shirt with his face on it?

4. Did you see how silly Joanna was this week, popping up from behind a dress form and whatnot?

5. I’m sorry but does Jerell have eyes? He really thought that look worked.

After Karl Lagerfeld set his spring 2012 couture show for Chanel on a plane, in which models walked down an aisle rather than a catwalk in modern yet mod takes on classic Chanel suiting, more than a few commenters thought there might be some Pan Am influence at play. In fact, the first comment after a post on Chanel’s couture show went up, from James Abbott in France, was “Someones [sic] been watching Pan Am!” (which has since been “liked” by five more commenters). ABC’s new Christina Ricci vehicle about the glory days of air travel set in 1963 may not be a ratings smash but the costumes are spot on. So we hopped on the phone with Ane Crabtree, the show’s costume designer, to talk Chanel’s in-flight couture, ’60s inspiration, where to find the best vintage from that decade, oh, and how to get her job.

1. Did Lindsay need Brad to tell her that she’s wearing a bright color with a neutral? Didn’t she probably know what colors she was wearing?

2. Doesn’t Cleo kind of seem like a better and harder-working and more professional assistant than Brad’s actual assistant?

3. Is Andrea Olivieri wearing a gown at this photo shoot?

4. How is a look going to be “aspirational and approachable?” And how is an open cardigan with nothing underneath something that people would actually wear? Just wondering.

Vanity Fair’s 2012 Hollywood issue is here, and it’s jam-packed with stylish and talented actresses. This is the first-ever VF Hollywood cover that Mario Testino’s shot, and the three page fold-out cover features Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins and Brit Marling. VF‘s fashion director, Jessica Diehl, styled the ladies in an Art Deco/Jazz Age fantasy, and the results are pretty spectacular. We vote Shailene Woodley (whose look at the SAG’s landed her on a lot of “worst dressed” lists) as most improved, and Rooney Mara as “best flapper bob.” The icy, satiny pastels and dramatic makeup looks just scream Hollywood glamor. Sorry Cathy Horyn, until the Great Gatsby comes out next December it looks like we’re just going to keep getting hit over the head with the ’20s. Read more »

1. Wouldn’t Ladurée have made more sense for this challenge?

2. Why didn’t everyone protest the assignment and make a rainbow assortment of wrap dresses?

3. Don’t you think this six hour challenge only happened because DVF had to catch the red-eye to Gstaad later that night?

4. Isn’t it kind of funny that this week’s mini-Mood was the size of an ordinary fabric store?

5. On what other show would a Rowenta product placement make sense? Kind of genius.

It’s becoming pretty clear to us that Azealia Banks, the 20-year-old Laguardia HS grad whose dirty lyrics (and genuine talent) have everyone’s attention, is poised to take the fashion world by storm as well. In fact, in a remarkably short time (basically one trip to Paris), she already has. When Nicola Formichetti tweeted at her a couple of weeks ago (and made us wonder if she was the next Lady Gaga), that was just the tip of the iceberg. Read more »

Between Project Runway, NBC’s upcoming Fashion Star, and 24 Hour Catwalk, you’d think we’d have enough fashion reality TV show competitions to go around. But, no, Rihanna thinks there should be one more. The popstar is set to launch her own version of a Project Runway-style show in the UK on the Sky Living network, which will search for the “the next generation of raw, undiscovered designer talent,” according to Sky Living.

But there’s a twist:
