A Photo Diary of Gwyneth Paltrow Hating the Met Ball

Last Monday’s Met Gala was basically the worst night of Gwyneth Paltrow‘s life. It was crowded; it was hot; she did not have a good time and she’s had no problem airing her grievances to an assortment of news outlets.

Since we now know what Paltrow was really thinking and feeling while at the star-studded event, we went ahead and put together a little photo diary of her, captioned with her own words.

How to Dress Exactly Like Punky Brewster

All this talk about punk lately–the punk-themed Met Ball is this Monday, after all–has got us thinking about the many punk influences we, as fashion folk, see around us all the time. There’s leather, studs, DIY, piercings, and of course, Vivienne Westwood. But there’s another punk who had a greater influence on many of us still: Obviously we’re talking about Punky Brewster.

Fantasy Dressing the Met Ball Guests
We Play Dress-Up

Fantasy Dressing the Met Ball Guests

The Met Ball is like the Oscars for the fashion industry: all the best people in all the best dresses.

This year’s theme, punk, presents an interesting conundrum: will people go all out, liberty spikes and Givenchy nose rings and all, or just throw some studs on a Chanel suit and call it pseudo-punk?

We’re hoping for the former, and so in the spirit of going the distance, we’ve picked out our favorite punk fashions and paired them with Met Ball regulars like Anna Wintour and Julianne Moore and some fantasy guests (Bjork, anyone?).

Click through to see the looks we want to see on the red carpet, and let us know what you’re hoping for in the comments.

10 Long-Lost ’90s Trends Ripe for a Comeback

We bet you’re regretting donating all your old overalls to Goodwill right about now, huh? From black light nail polish to slap bracelets and belly button rings, ’90s fashion hasn’t been this popular since, well, the ’90s. Topshop is even selling a pair of high-heeled glitter jellies (which we somewhat embarrassingly are considering copping).

But there are several beloved (or maybe, reviled) ’90s trends that have yet to resurface. Behold, our list of long-lost ’90s trends that now, in 2013, are more than ripe for a comeback. As with all things in fashion, it’s only a matter of time… Will you embrace them?

If Fashion Folks Really Went Punk for the Met Ball

As you’re no doubt aware, the theme of this year’s Costume Institute exhibit at the Met will be ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture.’ And that means that come May 6, the night of the Met Ball, fashion’s finest will have to do their very best punk impressions. While we highly, highly doubt we’ll see anyone sporting Read more →

Listen to Karl Lagerfeld…the Rap Song by Chanel West Coast

TV personality-cum-rapper Chanel West Coast has learned a valuable lesson from Kreayshawn: Name-drop a famous designer’s name over and over again, and you’re bound to get some press. Better yet: Name your song after them.

At least that’s what Chanel West Coast, whose real name is Chelsea Chanel Dudley (she starred on Rob Dyrdek’s reality TV show Fantasy Factory as his receptionist), seems to be banking on with her new single ‘Karl Lagerfeld.’

Coachella Fashion Mistakes I’ve Made So You Don’t Have To

Coachella Fashion Mistakes I’ve Made So You Don’t Have To

That’s right, Coachella’s not over yet. So we asked our contributor Jo Piazza to share some hard lessons she’s learned at Coachellas past.

It’s the place where the good and the bad meet the beautifully boho and the shamefully shiftless. Rocking out to Vampire Weekend and Jurassic Five while soaking up the sun seems to naturally lend itself to a style best described as homeless spring breaker or slutty Pocahontas.

We understand. You look at pictures of Kate Bosworth and Katy Perry running about Indio without shoes or pants and you think, “I can be that free.”

You can’t. I thought I could be that free. You know what it gave me: Two broken toes, a fanny pack tan line, a fight with Paris Hilton and a rash.

Follow my sage advice and don’t let your last weekend at Coachella be a disaster, fashion or otherwise.

How to Blow Your Entire Tax Return in One Purchase

Maybe you’re super organized and filed your taxes months ago. Maybe you’re a last minute kind of person (like some of us) and just filed them. Either way, you should have some money coming your way after a year of forking over your salary to taxes. According to the IRS (via CBS), the average tax return in 2012 was $2,899.

Sure, you can choose to be responsible with your newly-acquired dough: Pay off credit cards, save for your retirement… OR, you can do the fun thing and blow the entire check in one sitting. It’s totally possible–with FASHION! Designer price points have gotten so high that the price for one luxury item–a dress, a bag, a pair of shoes–is approximately the cost of the average tax return. Sad but true.
